I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Extremely flexible scheduling down to a 15 minute increments at your own discretion, good pay compared to other companies in the area, not being forced to take someone’s shift if they call out, co workers are very friendly and I have not witnessed any drama among co workers. Good company to work for with a strong financial outlook(job security). Workload is always manageable. Managers/Supervisors are reasonable

    Cons

Low amount of hours, Being micromanaged, and following strict guidelines about minute things at work

I worked at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Some nice coworkers in the store

    Cons

Management overlooks established employees to get promoted. Old boys network and clique management. Brown nosers get promoted despite their lack of experience and skills! Raises after 1 year are only a few cents per hour even though you had many great customer reviews and were required to do a supervisor job for 3 months. Your work at barely above minimum wage is not appreciated at all with a lot of heavy lifting!

    Advice to Management

Start looking at your employees, stop this firing all the time when employees get over a certain per hour rate! Replacing an employee all the time is bad for the image and also experience is lost! Retraining is more time consuming and really annoys the customer as no one is around to answer product questions!

    Pros

Training program, room for advancement. Starting pay is average for a big box company. Good benefits.

    Cons

Very regimented. No steady shifts. On your feet most of the shift. When busy, not able to take assigned break.

    Advice to Management

Give department computer training prior to putting employee out on sales floor.

"Too many part time jobs, not enough full time"

    Pros

You get to work with a variety of different people. With the clinics that are offered you get to learn a lot about home remodeling and projects.

    Cons

They used to pay very well and have an abundance of full time positions years and years ago. But they now work by metrics and, like a lot of retail companies, they choose to have more part timers and pay very little.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cashiers are given some autonomy, your co-workers are knowledgeable and competent, the store is well-laid-out, and the store inventory is interesting.

    Cons

It can be difficult to help customers when you are stuck at a cash register. There are no real opportunities to advance your career if you want to get past retail.
