I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

THD is a great place to set your career in motion. With benefits like tuition reimbursement, hardship assistance and health ins for part time employees you’ll be hard pressed to find a better corp to work for. If the Store Manager and Assisatnt Store Managers are good leaders, it’s a pleasant atmosphere and sales will soar.

    Cons

Some managers with poor work ethics are fast tracked, leaving department heads and other associates to clean up their mistakes. If they happen to be a good friend to the store manager, their position isn’t in any kind of jeopardy and the store suffers

    Advice to Management

Keep the good ol boy mentality out of management

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There actually is no pro to any position at the store level.

    Cons

There is poor communication between management and the associates on the store level. Also promised that are made to the associates are not kept. Advancement beyond Department supervisor is an unclear path and they will forget about you. Mentor ship is a joke because no one in upper management is there to lead or train, and they do not recognize the hard workers. They are drastically understaffed and will will move you around to fill holes in the schedule instead of hiring appropriately. Upper Management will go home on time while the associates have to work overtime due to lack of staffing. Audits are a joke due to the fact that 3-4 people from district management will come in and tell you the same thing.

    Pros

They Definitely Show Favoritism Let That Be A Key Fact, You Have To Open Up A Clear Path For Your Self Working There....Might Even Have To Speak Up And Let The Managers Know You Are Looking To Move Up Long As Your Hard Work Can Back You Up.

    Cons

Must Be Dedicated And Loyal Also Be A Helpful Team Player Thats How You Get Your Weight Up At The THD.

    Advice to Management

Stop Showing Favoritism And Appreciate The Support From The Part Timers That Are Looking To Move Up.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Hourly Pay
    - Taught Good Work Ethic
    - Flexible Hours
    - Free Food
Overall, The Home Depot is a great first time job to work at. I would recommend anyone who wants to work here apply for anything, BUT Lot Associate. The Home Depot was extremely flexible with my availability to work, with some minor issues.

    Cons

Speaking from experience as a Lot Associate I can say the bad outweighed the good.
Certain people who worked as the Head Cashier, or Pro/Service Desk Associates were extremely rude/arrogant to Lot Associates. They would order you around like a grunt and make you do other departments jobs while they sat on their phones playing games, and/or talked to their fellow co workers. This may not seem like a problem, but when they yell at you for talking to a fellow Lot Associate and send you to opposite ends of the store it's almost hypocritical.
I would find myself the hardest working employee at certain times but received no recognition or award, while the people who sat around all day and accomplished nothing revived awards and benefits . Because of this, it was easy to see there was favoritism associated with rewards.
The last problem while working here was when I was given other people's shifts without even checking if I could work them. One week I checked my shift, saw all my shifts, the next day a shift was added on the weekend when I would be going out of town without my notice. I simple phone call could have confirmed this and prevented this issue.
I encourage anyone who wants to have an easy going first time job to apply here as a Cashier, or if you are 18, a Store Associate. Just a fair warning, DON'T apply for Lot Associate, you will be worked like a grunt/slave, while your co workers relax and get rewarded

    Advice to Management

    - Stop playing favoritism.
    - Listen to the needs of the employees.
