Get to know your employees if you want them to become tenured.

    Pros

Great company, with a lot of upward mobility. A lot of customer interaction, and flexibility to make an impact

    Cons

As an ASM work/life can be challenging depending on the store, and upper management

    Advice to Management

Take care of your ASMs. They run your stores.

Huge company with room for advancement, CEO that seems to give a crap!

    Cons

Stores are a bit insular and can limit advancement to other locations.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Core Values, taking care of each other, taking care of the customer, driving business by increasing average order value. The Homer Fund is an incredible tool for taking care of the associates. Home Depot is an ethical company and works very hard to be fair to everyone.

    Cons

Understaffing, no time for training, unrealistic time management issues, too big to be agile and responsive to customer needs. Low pay makes attracting and retaining talent impossible. There is no such thing as work/life balance. Be divorced or single.

    Advice to Management

I don’t believe management cares what I have to say. I was treated as if I was disposable, so my advice would be discarded. Basically, you have to show up, figure it all out, juggle everything, get no positive feedback, and execute game plans with no feelings or emotions.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

One of the most competitive salaries for ASM's when compared to other retail businesses. Great bonus's if your store is a top performing store. As for moving up, lots of opportunity to move up provided you're competent.

    Cons

SM/DM personalities, like any other retail business can vary. Some you mesh well with, others you clash against. Staffing issues are a persistent thorn, never enough people and pay is not enough to retain talent, leading to turnover as people look for better opportunities.

Long hours sometimes, minimum for me was a scheduled 10, but more often than worked 12+. Can really wear you down over time. Some of the directives are eroding the core value of entrepreneurship as they look to standardize things between stores and make each store a cookie cutter copy of each other, leaving you little wiggle room to make your store stand out from the rest.

    Advice to Management

Overall Craig and Ann-Marie have the right attitude with bringing customer service focus back and spending lots on tech, however more money needs to be allocated to payroll since COL is so high in CA.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Competitive Pay ( management)
    Competitive Benefits
    Advancement Opportunities
    Recognition
Work life balance if a good store. 10 hr days
    Success sharing for all
Homer fund used for helping fellow peers in need

    Cons

Work life balance if a troubled Store. 12-14hr days
    Staffing ( associates aren’t paid competitively )
Consistency between stores how they are ran
    High expectations without proper training

    Advice to Management

SOP is translated differently in each store.
Continue to believe your associates are your greatest assets
