I have been working at The Home Depot (Less than a year)

    Pros

The best things about this company is upward mobility and team spirit. The home depot is a marketing giant and doesn't waste any office space not reminding where you are at or what you can gain from them. There's lots of people so there's going to be somebody you can relate to. There is also a great amount of diversity.

    Cons

The walls are bright orange in a lot of areas. Like they bleed orange, and the parking is horrendous. Sometimes the food in the cafe is terrible. People are quick to send emails about every little thing you do that they don't approve of.

    Advice to Management

Demand more reporting from team leads about who is the biggest contributor and why. Don't reinforce rules everyone now but push everyone to the next level through positive reinforcement.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Full time work with good financial benefits for IT professionals. Current management is an improvement over the Nardelli disaster.

    Cons

There are no permanent jobs here and most of the stock option pay disappears when you get laid off. Be prepared for random acts of management by a culture focused on the next quarterly earnings report.

    Advice to Management

Pursuit of the cheapest way to get work done at all levels will come back to haunt you in this life or the next one.

I worked at The Home Depot for more than a year

      Pros

if you're a permanent employee you have easy access to other jobs within the company (ie move between departments), lots of corporate-sponsored events for women and other groups and sports/activities.

      Cons

many middle-level managers have paternalistic/macho views, making for a very uncomfortable work environment for women in Finance/IT, men will steal your ideas and take credit for them, not much praise for working overtime or going above and beyond. People have been there for 20+ years and even if they have set the company back they will keep them due to their knowledge.

      Advice to Management

Replace old timers with new blood, listen to new ideas (especially from women), do not keep the same outdated inefficient processes/systems because they are familiar.

I have been working at The Home Depot full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Found an awesome manager that promotes work/life balance (including telecommuting), great benefits including a large daycare facility on-site, decent pay, community involvement, etc.

      Cons

Been there for awhile, so also had an old micro-manager boss that made life difficult for a few years
