I have been working at The Home Depot (More than a year)

    Pros

Meet some great people with interesting backgrounds and stories. If you enjoy helping people and interacting with customers, it's great.

    Cons

My store kept expanding my job description without paying me more. I'm doing the work of 4+ departments and doing the jobs of like 20+ people, and since the recent raise in starting wage in new jersey home depots, I lost 2 raises that I worked for and earned. now i'm making the same as the randoms that walk in off the street and get a job. Also, the "success sharing""bonuses" are a literal joke. I did the math once to figure out how much I was supposed to get, the math said $400+ but my direct deposit said $80. The managers steal from you.

    Advice to Management

Quit being so fake towards your employees. acting like you're friends and then rudely shutting down those who speak up on unfair treatment. Also, clearly outline the demands of a job before forcing it on the employees when you know good and well it is literally not in their job description.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Freindly, caring, and nurturing environment with strong effort to recognize efforts of employees. Meaningful career planning tools, counsel, and encouragement. Diverse workforce without favoritism. Those who show interest and do more are recognized by management. Reviews are fair and without "gotchas".

    Cons

Schedules can be reduced when seasonal slow downs occur and then increased at peak times without warning.

    Advice to Management

Would really help if schedule changes were emailed to employees when they are made.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Community Services. Giving back to vets, communities and those in need. They have some decent programs in place for employees in need as well.

    Cons

Pay too low, not enough hours, expect a lot and don't want to compensate. They use and abuse you during the busy season and as soon as things taper off, so do your hours.

    Advice to Management

Management should realize that every employee, from the store manager to the employee that sweeps and cleans the floor, plays a very integral role in the success or demise of their store. Just because one holds a "title" does not mean he can do without those that keep the cogs and inner workings of the store oiled and running smoothly.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The other employees are pretty nice and sociable. On holidays there is a barbecue out back. A pretty good place to work in retail.

    Cons

The work is pretty boring, not very challenging or intellectually stimulating. There is quite a bit of manual labor involving lifting heavy objects.

    Advice to Management

Value the employees more and be more available to help. More training on the products in the departments.
