I have been working at The Home Depot part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Decent local people to work with and to serve from the community. Regular training, with an emphasis on safety. Opportunities to switch job positions.

    Cons

The usual terrible retail sales work schedule - never the same from week to week, with shifts spread over very early mornings, mid-day, evenings, and workweek vs. weekends. Scheduling late night "closing" shifts that are followed by early morning "opener" shifts. Puny annual raises - from $.25 - $.30 per hour. Clear discrimination in starting pay, with men being offered significantly higher starting wages than what's...

    Advice to Management

Standardize wages for positions being filled, regardless of worker's gender. Set wages to reflect/accommodate local/regional cost of living (as a percentage of national average). Transparency in starting wages for each position. Higher level management training is needed for ASM's who worked their way up from floor associate - to prevent them from behaving too familiarly with the associates under their direction....

I worked at The Home Depot part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good management. Team work atmosphere. Success Sharing. If one sticks with job avg. 1-2 yrs there is room for growth.

    Cons

Available all weekends. Co-workers can be un-dependable. Some supervisors not qualified for dept. Work to pay ratio for part timers can be unfair. not consistent scheduling.

    Advice to Management

make sure supervisors are qualified to run specific departments. be more conscious of workers weekends and realize that many have families. make scheduling more consistent.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Very good hands on training, they really prepare you before you start working in your department. Fast pace environment, great co-workers, and the company treats you like family, and they really go out the way for customers. Most of the benefits are very good and a company worth returning to.

    Cons

The benefits of the sales check is good if you work full time, no in store discounts, but do have access to worker discount websites. hours are sometimes all over the place, you are required to work some weekends, can never have all weekends off, unless job requires you to work Mon. -Fri. Hard to advance into management and lot of politics in order to get into some areas of management.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the employee appreciation the homer badges are great I brag about them all the time and training program it is very useful. Change some of the benefits or incentives.
