I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits for part-timers: Dental, Vision, Profit Sharing, Life Insurance, Stock Options and more

    Cons

Constantly on your feet, varied schedule: may close one night and open the next morning

    Advice to Management

More consistent scheduling for part-timers just like full-timers.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of support by co-workers. The management team tries to be supportive. Good amount of hours available for PT if you call in on days off. Once. you know what is expected of you, you can do your job with little interruption. Fun place to work if you are good with people.

    Cons

Management is focussed on sales. They do not know much about product or how departments operate. Any suggestions for improvements to store operations are given lip service but nothing changes. See first comment

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to employee input. Many people quit due to frustration. Since the store is either understaffed or undertrained, the knowledgeable associates carry the load. Therefore, good people quit after awhile. Pay should match department skill level and should consider equipment a person is capable to use.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always seem to be raising the starting wage, most of the people are really nice to work with, and they work with you to move you up the ranks. They really have hard interviews to ensure you are ready to work the next level

    Cons

Always changing their policies, need to do a better job training certain tasks that they want done. Need to be a bit quicker when updating stuff.

I worked at The Home Depot full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the people I work with weren't that bad.

    Cons

Management only caring about money. Being treated like a doormat. Having to be a brown nose to work your way up the chain of command. They do not care about their employees if it stands in the way of a customer.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the associate that actually cared about the company instead of taking the side of a new customer who needs an attitude adjustment.

I worked at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits, somewhat good pay

    Cons

Standing on concrete floors, forget breaks and lunches often, not as easy to move up in the company as they claim, difficult to get any problems solved, poor management

    Advice to Management

Actually listen to your employees when they have complaints and take action, reinforce rules equally and fairly for everyone.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They take care of their employees. They are good to work for. It can be challenging with all the customers but it is fun. You work long hours but it never seems like that. You can make friends very easy.

    Cons

They don't promote the right people for the right job. They tend to promote with people with less time than most do that also apply for the job.

    Advice to Management

To learn to promote the right person to the right job. And to know not all people are the same.

    Pros

everyone is extremely friendly and willing to go out of their way with the exception of a select few which will be experienced at any job. management tries to work with employees as much as corporate will allow which unfortunately is not too much and if able to management would allow for more leiniencey.

    Cons

required to work at least one weekend day whenever you are needed to work, although understandable, for some people that work multiple jobs and weekends where hours are required elsewhere is unrealistic and the willingness to allow for weekends off if very minimal at best.

    Advice to Management

work with employees that need time off more and allocate more money to necessary projects and not so much to less meanigful projects that will not effect product sales or will only bring in small amounts of revenue for the company.

    Pros

Flexible schedule, good working environment, opp. for advancement, great if you are a people person. There are allot of perks that come with working for them, like events, employee parties, KABOOM! projects. And if you want to learn how to do stuff, thats the place to work, i learn something new about home improvement every day, and if you have a problem the employees and manegment really come together to help out someone in need.

    Cons

You may work in a small local store, dealing with a small community, but in the end you work for a corporate giant, full of number crunchers, bean counters, and penny pinchers. Though i suppose it's worse in other places, the place still has a good vibe about it, unless you've been screwed by them( which there have been many).

    Advice to Management

Nothing, there doing the best they can in a volitle market during very trying times.
