a lot of cash handling and reconciliation for minimum wage

    Advice to Management

more a bookkeeping position than a entry level customer service job

I worked at The Hotel Viking part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great summer job if that is what you are looking for with plenty of opportunities in a wonderful town. You will make lots of great friendships that will be solidified in high pressure situations

    Cons

Upper management is out of touch with its base employees. There is no real concept to them of the life or schedule of a bottom level employee. Middle management has to play a divided role as a consequence of this.

    Advice to Management

Understand your low level employees better. Front line supervisors are your greatest asset and you are ignoring them

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Very fun and enjoyable place to work. The staff are all friendly and personable, managers included. I worked in the restaurant and the money you make in the summer months (prime months) is very good.

    Cons

Can be very seasonal if you're looking to work full-time. Another constant issue is we were usually always understaffed and management would over-work the employees.

    Advice to Management

The only thing I would suggest is to hire more people in the summer months. Lots of college students are looking for summer restaurant positions and what better place to work than Newport, Rhode Island.

I have been working at The Hotel Viking full-time

    Pros

The great people and fun atmosphere with people who Strive to be the best in the industry. Benefits great for full time employees.

    Cons

Pay isn't great and there are long hours. Gossip travels fast and a lot of young immature and inexperienced staff

    Advice to Management

Incentivize performance to retain good talent, encourage career development through mentorship and counseling.
