I have been working at The Houstonian Hotel Club and Spa full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Friendly staff, excellent benefits

    Cons

Vacation pay for fitness staff is not great but many jobs in fitness don't offer benefits at all so for the industry it's not a bad deal

    Pros

It was a great high paying job. The company culture was top notch. The company takes pride in training employees correctly! Great benefits as well.

    Cons

Hard to think of many cons. You could work a lot of hours if you weren't aware. Also, lots of meetings, meetings about meetings.

    Advice to Management

I think you over pay management.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at The Houstonian Hotel Club and Spa full-time

    Pros

Nice grounds, good networking and fun coworkers

    Cons

The Fitness club pays its commission only personal trainerr employees a hourly converted rate when they take vacations rather than a percentage of their yearly earned commissions. This is not legal according to the federal business law., as I understand it.The Houstonian could possibly owe millions of dollars in back pay to these workers.

    Advice to Management

Stop managing from behind closed doors. Help your staff more rather than being critical.

    Pros

Great team. Never the same day twice. I was always treated respectfully. My manager was a great mentor. I loved my time at The Houstonian. Lots of long term employees. Good benefits.
    Fun environment.

    Cons

Really, I had a great experience. There were some employees who were always complaining. Kind of weird to complain about paying $1 for a hot meal, but you'd hear stuff like that. The Spa managers were really tough, but pretty consistent. They held everyone to a high level and wrote people up if they made mistakes. That's not really a "con" - just expect to be held accountable.

    Advice to Management

Some of the employees who have been there forever might need to go. They complain too much about things they should be thankful for.

    Pros

The people that work here are very friendly and accommodating. The management is always there to listen.

    Cons

No real cons, my time there was great. It is not a career choice, don't expect to move up in the company.
