I worked at The Jones Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, excellent work/life balance (early out fridays), great offices, collaborative environment within the design team. I happened to work for a very knowledgable boss who was a good mentor.

    Cons

antagonistic environment for crossfunctional teams, creativity is dampened by routine and repetition, focus on competition and credit to ideas. Not too much to complain about except the uncertainty with the direction of the business.

    Advice to Management

Elevate brand image by introducing fresh new ideas/design/process. Put some Focus on innovation instead of putting all hopes into historically strong performers. Balance sales target with acquiring a broader customer base.

I worked at The Jones Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits if you can ever leave the office for a doctors appointment or vacation.

    Cons

High level of stress, fear tactics are used by management. Management likes to schedule meetings at the end of day. Beware if you have after work obligations.

    Advice to Management

Give positive feedback, promote from within, do not promote a culture of yelling and fighting within the ranks.

    Pros

Good learning opportunity if you are new to the workforce, good pay compared to similar companies, learned good sales strategies

    Cons

Has been producing poorer quality products and long-time customers begin to notice, sales quotas are unrealistic and the system divides and causes tension between employees.

    Advice to Management

There has to be a more efficient system for employees to meet quotas that will not result in "taking" sales from others

    Pros

Everyone is extremely nice in the jewelry department, which is an entire floor of the building and comprises of approximately 30 employees. The Jones group is a private label company, so it's interesting to see how each team manages each client/brand differently. I learned a lot and my design director was the BEST boss I have ever had. So nice and understanding, and open to all your suggestions. Never negative, overly critical, or just plan mean (which you sadly see almost everywhere in the design world). We had summer friday schedule YEAR ROUND, so everyone could leave by 3PM every Friday. Hours weren't bad otherwise (9-5:30), and there was some sort of office bonding party every week with tons of food and snacks. If anyone was getting married or having a baby, there would be a party or shower thrown for them. Nice people.

    Cons

Not a lot of information was shared with the design teams on the inner workings of the company. It's very corporate, so you just do your job for the day and get out. Could get boring and uninspiring at times. Takes a looooong time to move up and get paid more. Also, the clients are VERY particular and picky about their developments, so there is limited creative freedom and a ton of back and forth with clients as well as vendors/factories.

    Pros

Great benefits with 401k and the office was a decent atmosphere and updated/modern. Corporate atmosphere is a pkus of you like structure and order

    Cons

Horrible management. Some managers rise up due to years put in and have no knowledge. Egos are at an all time high and layoffs happened verrrry frequently

    Advice to Management

    Quit

I worked at The Jones Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits: health insurance, 401K matching. Good employee discounts on all corporate brands. The VP of technical design was very nice and willing to share his expertise (he also teaches at FIT). The company had a tuition reimbursement program which made pursuing continuing education at FIT very attractive and financially feasible. The corporate infrastructure made the production process very smooth.

    Cons

After a serious corporate restructure, there were a lot of people within the department under only a few managers. The manager of my technical team played favorites and would require that we work overtime without remembering that we were already working overtime. There did not appear to be room for advancement or career growth within the company when I finally left.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees. They work hard for you and deserve respect and acknowledgement.
