I worked at The Jones Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits: health insurance, 401K matching. Good employee discounts on all corporate brands. The VP of technical design was very nice and willing to share his expertise (he also teaches at FIT). The company had a tuition reimbursement program which made pursuing continuing education at FIT very attractive and financially feasible. The corporate infrastructure made the production process very smooth.

    Cons

After a serious corporate restructure, there were a lot of people within the department under only a few managers. The manager of my technical team played favorites and would require that we work overtime without remembering that we were already working overtime. There did not appear to be room for advancement or career growth within the company when I finally left.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees. They work hard for you and deserve respect and acknowledgement.

    Pros

Many years of working for an exciting and growing company

    Cons

The company struggled through the tough retail environment and sold to a financial company which sold the brand and laid off the all employees related to that liable and program.

    Pros

The customers were wonderful. The benefits were pretty good. Employee discount. Supervisor was knowledgeable and helpful. Coworkers were fun and enjoyable.

    Cons

Not enough payroll hours to efficiently run a store. Not a great work to life balance. Company was constantly making changes.

    Advice to Management

Listen to feedback from the store level.

I worked at The Jones Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company was focused on women and family. Very family oriented.

    Cons

After six months of employment entire customer service department laid off. Customer Service now handled out of NY office.

    Advice to Management

What were they thinking hiring when they very well knew about the impending layoffs.

I worked at The Jones Group full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits package. Summer Friday program where you could work a part day if you worked longer hours Monday-Thursday to make up for it.

    Cons

Position was offered as salary but was switched to hourly at one point for employees under a certain title level. This switch was made without employee approval under the reasoning that they would have an opportunity to make more income. This was not the case as managers were told to strongly discourage overtime. Employees that originally worked longer hours due to under-staffing were now stressed to complete their work in the standard 40 hour week. When this topic was brought to management they said the remaining salary employees should be working the extra hours... not a great solution. Not a workplace that remembers employees also have outside commitments and families.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within and make sure to foster and educate your young employees.

  9. "Over the last 18 months the Company has gone through many changes, and most arn't positive"

    Pros

The pay was fair and benefits are above average. Loyal and dedicated staff. Like a family. And then came the changes.

    Cons

Company lacked vision for surviving in evolving wholesale/retail environment. CEO (who was an above average CFO) definitely was a disaster with no tools for providing direction. Made some highly questionable staff decisions. He took the money and left. Fortunately, with Mr. Card gone the new owners are trying to resurrect itself. Current state of Flux is not conducive to a welcoming workplace. Time will tell.

    Advice to Management

Hire people based on talent. Management always reverts to "we always hire the most qualified". Well, hasn't worked for Jones in the past. Have a solid strategy and gain "buy-in" from all staff. And live by the Golden Rule.
