I have been working at The Kaizen Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The upper management is easily accessible and strive to empower their employees to work towards excellence. They recognize and reward good work and are willing to listen to suggestions for improvement. If you're looking for a development job that allows you to think outside the box then I highly recommend Kaizen!

    Cons

Expectations are high and the work can be challenging. There is not a lot of hand holding, but if you thrive in a "learn by doing" environment then this could be the company for you.

I worked at The Kaizen Company full-time

    Pros

Lots of happy hours at the office with delicious free food.

    Cons

Work for staff other than senior management was primarily administrative; very limited opportunities for involvement in anything technical. Most of the partners' only development experience was at Kaizen, so the depth and diversity of experience was limited. Passive aggressive and un-self-aware management style. A lot of talk that was contradicted by behavior, in terms of how things should operate, the culture they...

    The Kaizen Company Response

    December 11, 2017Managing Director

Hi Everyone - this is Kevin. I’m Kaizen’s Managing Director – our “CEO” position. It’s a bit of a bummer to get a review like this on Glassdoor. It’s even more of a bummer that one of our former team members feels this way! To our former colleague who wrote this: We’re really ...

I have been working at The Kaizen Company full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Kaizen provides an open and collaborative work environment that is fast-paced and values innovation. Employees get to experience all aspects of international development project management and proposal development along with building and managing a quickly growing company. It has a startup feel. Kaizen is not "international development as usual".

    Cons

As Kaizen is still a small business, employees are asked to work outside of their comfort zones and perform in areas they may not be familiar with. This can cause one to feel a bit stretched at times. If you're looking for an a long established company with well-oiled systems and a precisely defined scope, Kaizen may not be the right fit. However, for those who thrive on being challenged this aspect of working for Kaizen...

I worked at The Kaizen Company

      Pros

The office is in a good location

      Cons

Work is boring and unrewarding. Office culture is clique-y and management is clueless. President is part-time and absentee.

I have been working at The Kaizen Company full-time

      Pros

A supportive and fun office with challenging work. Nice office in good DC location. Overall a young group of employees who want to work hard and have fun. You can put on different hats and get involved in all sides of the business, which makes each day interesting and different. Fun working at a small business that is often changing.

      Cons

It takes a while to be awarded for good performance/hard work. Junior staff are sometimes frustrated by few opportunities for travel and the low base salary means it takes a long time to make significant pay increases.

      Advice to Management

Award high performers and make efforts to show good employees that you value them. This will have a big impact if you want people to be more motivated.

I have been working at The Kaizen Company full-time

      Pros

Always something to work on The environment is great, people are very supportive and fun Even though much of the staff is relatively new, it still feels very cohesive You play just as hard as you work

      Cons

There are often multi-day stretches of panicked scrambling to get things polished When things aren't crazy, it seems slow (comparatively)

      Advice to Management

Pre-positioning more (while potentially risky) could alleviate a lot of the "hair on fire" moments.

      Pros

A team atmosphere where people work to achieve common goals High degree of professionalism, with client service as one of highest priorities Opportunities for growth in operational and technical areas

      Cons

A relatively flat hierarchy can make it feel like everyone is your boss

      Advice to Management

Continue to value your people and provide them with chances to get to the field and take leadership roles

I have been working at The Kaizen Company full-time

      Pros

everyone is involved from CEO to the most junior staff. Very 'can do' corporate culture that rewards those with initiative and drive. Very dedicated, committed leadership team and core staff. Small and nimble. If you're interested in something they'll likely let you work on it

      Cons

Not great if you need hands-on oversight or aren't comfortable taking initiative or taking on tasks and responsibilities that are new to you.

      Advice to Management

Keep at it! The development needs more organizations that are truly trying to innovate and 'push the envelope' !
