I worked at The Melting Pot part-time

    Pros

    Looks great on a resume
Decent money on a busy night

    Cons

My location had a lot of nepotism
Owner of my location was demeaning
     Overall pretty slow
Tip out cocktail servers on the busier nights, the weekend on alcohol sales and tip bartender too
Auto gratuity only on Valentine's Day and New Year's in my location because owner didn't want to pay for it
Constant heavy lifting and running around when tables also demand constant service, hard to juggle all at the same time, especially while trying to do side work so you're out not super late

I worked at The Melting Pot part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great concept for a restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere and opportunity to make good money as a server.

    Cons

The owners of the Chicago land area are awful. They would storm into the kitchen and literally yell at management in front of the whole staff. They would shame employees by posting up negative reviews for everyone to see. Just not very professional.

    Advice to Management

    Beware of owners.

I worked at The Melting Pot full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The management is great. They are very flexible with the schedule and the nights when you work are always very consistent money wise. My location had a great culture and I considered all my coworkers friends.

    Cons

It is a lot more labor intensive than a typical server job.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.

I worked at The Melting Pot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very in-depth training process and supportive management, who expose you to a great wealth of knowledge. Free salad of your choice before meals, latitude to gift guests with free samples of champagne for their special events. Very unique and one of a kind dining experience, which exposes you to the world of fondue and it was a terrific learning experience.

    Cons

I worked in Reston, VA for some months. Great and supportive management, though they sometimes played favorites. There was a distinct culture of seniority there, and it seemed the system was designed so that the long-term staff always made significantly more money. The thing was, there was tons of side work. They took advantage of the servers. There was pre-side work, which involved cutting veggies, breads and other cheese dippers. Then there was tons of closing sidework at the end of the night, which got grueling after tons of hours on your feet multi-tasking cooking and serving at different tables. The worst part was the never-ending rolling of silverware. This took the most time and was highly tedious. And all this for what? To leave with $60 to $80 a night if you were lucky, from the three or four tables you had ALL night, because remember, the dining experience is extremely long, and so you don't flip tables very often and your ability to make good money really rests on your service ability and the benevolence from the few guests you would get the entire night. I do not recommend. Go work at a faster paced, economy restaurant and save yourself the time and headache. You will probably make more money there too. I was working at a chain restaurant, doing considerably less sidework and making much more money nightly than at the Melting Pot.

Also senior staff members were exceedingly clique-ish with management.

I worked at The Melting Pot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you live in KC, work at one restaurant on the plaza and then you can work at them all. The only good thing about working here is that it helped me get hired somewhere else.

    Cons

I was a hostess and the servers were allowed to yell at the hosts and treat them terribly. Management did nothing to intervene. They mislead me about the possibility of being promoted, saying they had a "head host" position who made significantly more than the other hosts. However, they dissolved the position shortly after I started working. I received a 10 cent raise and they forgot to put it on my check for over a month. The said hosts could earn commission on selling merchandise like flowers and chocolate, and later I found out that wasn't true. Management was almost completely detached from the franchise owner, so the owner implemented ideas that were more harmful than helpful. I saw the owner twice in the 8 months that I worked there. They had mice. The A/C was broken. They only care about making money and don't fix anything in the restaurant. They frequently overbook and understaff the restaurant, leaving us to deal with unhappy customers. I functioned more as a punching bag for customers and servers than an actual employee. They frequently tried to call me in early even though I was in school.

    Advice to Management

    Quit.

I worked at The Melting Pot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun and fast-paced working environment. Easy to move up and earn more money.

    Cons

Management was very unprofessional and extremely unorganized. Terrible scheduling issues with shifts. Management was very bad at communicating anything and it was a struggle to get a hold of them as well to ask about pay or shift scheduling.

    Advice to Management

Just needs a complete overhaul on management staff.
