Great work environment
Aug 2, 2021 - Retail Sales Associate in Costa Mesa, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
For someone that enjoys talking about the outdoors, this is the perfect job. Understanding management, flexible hours, overall great work environment.
Cons
Commission is given in the form of north face gift cards, and is not much.

35% employee discount with flexible scheduling
Cons
When I first started working at The North Face, I had minimal customer service training until two months into the job.

Pros
The culture around being in the outdoors is great. Lots of good people on staff that really want to make the company better. Nice discount on premium clothes.
Cons
The parent company, VF, and The North Face are dinosaurs in terms of process, human resources (e.g. benefits, advancement, hiring), IT structure, and staff structure. Low pay, understaffed, oppressive expectations, and tiny departmental budgets given the size of the company all contribute to rapid burnout.

Best retail company that I have ever worked for.
May 7, 2014 - Outlet Sales Associate in Hagerstown, MDRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great employee discount 50% of outlet and retail. Great employees to work with. Fun and exciting work experience if you like the utdoors. At the north face they will actually pay you up to 10 hours of volunteer work at regular pay.Loyal and very respectfull customers to sell to. the North Face will pay you to do any outdoor activities that you wish but they will only pay 50$ of it. Great management to work with they treat their employees with respect unlike other jobs that I have previously worked for. Good pay at around 10$ an hour and if you are full time you get 14-15$ an hour. As a part time employee I get paid time off and also paid sick leave which is very rare in a part time retail job. And when you reach 20000$ in sales they will give you a 50$ gift card and that's not to hard to get one of my employees actually got a 500$ north face gift card. Also great holiday pay it is around 15-16$ an hour on holidays. You get to make your own schedule and it is very easy for management to work with your hours. And you also get to demo their gear when ever you want like tents anything pretty much. This company is a great place to work for great leadership and structure .
Cons
The challenges of working here is that it is a very competitive atmosphere . I found that you need to work very hard to even get noticed for my work. I found that the north face is actually a very difficult p,a e to get a job at I have had 20 of my closest friends apply and none of them got hired. If you want a job here I suggest calling the north face the day after the interview and bug them so that they know that you want this job.i feel that the north face did not train the employees at my store enough the training was 4 days sitting down with a instructorrr. But when my manager hired people after the store opening they did not get any training at all so the only people that new anything were the originall employees.

Pros
pays way too much money, should probably pay less if he wants to avoid bankruptcy
Cons
potentially can face bankruptcy if he keeps paying this much money

Great place to work
Apr 15, 2014 - Sales Associate in Peabody, MARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The people I worked with were amazing. The employee discount (50%) was better than any other retail store I've worked for before. The company seemed pretty easy going and where super lenient on returns and warranties which was nice because I didn't have to deal with angry customers often.
Cons
The only downside the working at The North Face is that unless it is during the holidays, you will most likely have pretty limited hours.

Cool outdoor brand being beaten into corporate submission
Feb 12, 2020 - Senior ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great brand story and employee discount. Alameda, CA HQ had a casual startup environment that allowed dynamic collaboration internally and cross functionally.
Cons
VF corp, the parent company, relocated The North Face HQ to Denver and changed the culture - overall low morale and high turnover. Experience was replaced with lower quality hires from irrelevant backgrounds. Disorganized and confusion riddled environment with lack of clarity around future direction of brand. Outdated systems and processes haunt each of the brands under the VF portfolio with legacy leadership's resistance to change and growth. A number of Senior level entitled/privileged associates with lack of accountability fly under the radar as a result of poor performance management process. No room for growth.
