I have been working at The Ohio State University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people and comfortable work environment. They are always looking to improve and they usually promote internally, so there are plenty of chances to move up if you stick around.

    Cons

Certain departments cannot pay well and are understaffed. This can make simple jobs difficult to accomplish, and many entry level jobs are not at competitive wages.

I have been working at The Ohio State University part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Working towards my Ph.d. in mechanical engineering and getting paid for my dissertation research. The work is self paced and and interesting. Interesting funding opportunities including GRA, GTA, fellowship, and Instructor.

    Cons

The pay is far below industry for masters in mechanical engineering. Very little recognition for day to day work or publications. Only real recognition for students who win specific awards or who reach end the end of their degree.

    Advice to Management

While graduating with the Ph.d. is the primary goal for the students in your graduate program, they tend to lose perspective when the only recognition they tend to get is at the completion of that goal.
