I worked at The Pantry full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary for someone without a whole lot of experience. Ability to go through the company training before starting.

    Cons

Long hours, having to cover for employees who don't show up, no real management authority without consulting the District Manager.

    Advice to Management

Give more authority to the store managers to take care of things locally and to hire more help - it is not a good idea to staff at such a low rate

I have been working at The Pantry full-time

    Pros

close to home, nice pay, friendly customers, paid time ans a half on holidays is nice. well the 3 they do pay you

    Cons

not so flexible hours, no lunch hour, getting punished for things you didnt do is no fun at all. long hours to cover shifts when other employees dont show

    Advice to Management

to keep a good team you should respect and show pride in the employees that you do have, dont bully and take advantage of them

    Pros

Prior to the purchase/merger was a strong company with good support for employees.

    Cons

Merger destroyed the team mentality. Well over 50% of employees were either cut via layoff, or saw the writing on the wall and bailed.

    Advice to Management

Best of luck to the Circle K management. Hopefully you will notice soon that people take pride and ownership when their value is acknowledged. Stop pushing costs back on the employees and rebuild the teams.

I worked at The Pantry full-time

    Pros

I enjoyed the crew I worked with but it was really hard to keep the good help due to them never getting raises that they all deserved

    Cons

The pay and the way the upper level management doesn't care about the "little guys " at all. This company has forgotten who it is that really makes them all the money and its not the person sitting behind a computer at their corporate office

I have been working at The Pantry full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team members that work well together.

    Cons

No direction or very little direction that changes on a whim that waste resources and money. Good 'ole boys club culture. If you are in the club you will be promoted outside of your experience or education to higher positions in the company.

    Advice to Management

Realize that culture, technology, benefits and pay need to keep up with the current requirements.

    Pros

    Great for allowing new ideas

    Cons

No appreciation for good employees that produced great outcomes. right to work state and management will fire you "just because" regardless of your impaction the company's overall bottom line. I would stay away from this company

    Advice to Management

Make sure action taken toward employees is truly reflective of their individual performance

I worked at The Pantry part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

room for growth, many locations, flexible hours and you can go to school and work at a location. in a lot of cities.

    Cons

not everyone works under the same rules, single coverage, robberies, not a lot of training. you are on your own, basically

    Advice to Management

managers and district managers should at least know as much as the employees about how to operate a register. Different rules for different employees. low morale. Our old district manager had an interest in our stores and she kept the team in good spirits. We don't have anyone at this time.

I have been working at The Pantry full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    customer interaction daily. paid weekly.

    Cons

the corporate people are too far removed from the reality of day to day operations. They lose good managers because they expect them to be a cashier most of the day due to cuts in labor. work/life balance is horrible, company doesn't want overtime and only one who is salary is manager. Good employees are hard to find at minimum wage, and only offer parttime.
