I have been working at The Red Door Salon & Spa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

From day one, I have had nothing but support from managers and corporate trainers. My experience with The Red Door has been multi-departmental. I see it as being one of the lucky ones - going from technician to manager. Everyone in my journey has been friendly and makes it easy to come to work in the morning. Working at a company that has such a history and with such strong branding just makes the experience even nicer. Education is important on all levels in this company. They care about their employees and provide a wealth of knowledge on all levels.

    Cons

Many emails on the management end. I do feel the need to check emails on days off so I am not overwhelmed on my Monday back in-spa. I do that so I can use my time effectively on the floor or on a task instead of sitting at my desk. Secondly, pay scale for salaried employees should be looked at. In an ever changing market, and with new competition always popping up, this is one way to ensure good managers stay with a company that they love to work for. Competitive rates are important.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees that are in the field and rely on them for feedback when changing important decisions when it comes to in spa procedures. Sometimes it may sound great on paper but in life it really may not be practical.

I worked at The Red Door Salon & Spa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free services can be booked if technician agrees, and during your off time.
    Product perks.
    Each day is different.
    Product training offered from Reps.
The pay is better as you move up into management.

    Cons

Training is often done by a co-worker. Often times that can lead to a negative onboarding experience. Not every co-worker has the skillset to train or should.
Can be a negative environment at times with gossiping, back stabbing and a lot of complaints both from staff and clients.

Often hiring is done through employee referrals so you will work with an entire clique and some are often unprofessional. I experienced some who were outright aggressive.

    High turnover.

Management is sometimes unresponsive to needs.

    Advice to Management

    Train the trainers.
Don't promote people unless they are ready.
Train staff in a consistent manner and should only be done by a manager and your top staff members.
    Discourage gossip and toxic environments.
Don't be afraid to document poor performance and hire.
Stop hiring friends of friends because its easier than going through the recruiting process.

I worked at The Red Door Salon & Spa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked at Red Door Salon and Spa as Color Assistant. My Department lead Arianna Parente in New York City was such a pleasure to work with. She is a strong, passionate, positive person who always listened and helped with all solutions to any issues I presented to her. She made my time with Red Door Salon and Spa in Union Square an enjoyable experience.

    Cons

Can be tough on the body to stand for a shift.

    Advice to Management

Give positive feedback when you have it, but you already do. It lifts employee morale!

I have been working at The Red Door Salon & Spa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Steep discounts on products.

    Not much else.

    Cons

    Where to begin?

    1) The facility is old and needs to be renovated DESPERATELY
    - The company recently increased prices on all services and a lot of people complained when it happened because although the prices were higher, the spa was not being renovated and was, in fact, falling to pieces around their heads.

    2) The relationship between the hotel where the spa shares space and the spa itself is tenuous at best, contentious and strained most of the time. It led to many very awkward interactions and miscommunication is an everyday occurrence.

    3) As a whole, the business practices of the Red Door as a company are very shady at times and may be seen as questionable. Without going into details, I was uncomfortable with many things they did and could not justify working there any longer.

    4) Promises were made in my initial interview that turned out to be completely fabricated or exaggerated. (For example, being promised commissions that I never actually got for various reasons.)

All in all, there are many cons to working here, but these are the highlights. I was disappointed with my time there, although I made several friends. I would not recommend working here, EVER. Several things need to change , but I just don't see that ever happening.

    Don't bother.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, there's too much to list here and I just don't believe that it would be heard.

    Pros

beautiful services that are very relaxing and truly so help to improve the skin.

    Cons

It was hard to increase you commission. I was at the same commission point for quite some time despite providing great numbers every month. Management was hard to talk to. They were helpful when it came to scheduling, but if there was a problem they really didn’t want to help you.
