    Pros

    Good managers in my department
4 weeks vacation after 5 years of employment

    Cons

Unionized, which means poor performers can never be fired. If you are a lazy worker, you are all set. If you like to work in a challenging environment with good opportunity for advancement, this is not the place for you. You get to work with some folks who have no passion towards their job or to the patients (unprofessional attitude, taking long breaks, etc).
Pay is low when compared to other hospitals.
Lack of training, career advancement for lower level employees. Education assistance amount is pathetic and all education has to be related to your current role.
External applicants are preferred to internal applicants. They have no interest to train you or give you an opportunity to learn a new job. If you want to move to another function, say from admin to a purchasing role, you are screened out as you do not have the 3-5 years of related experience.

Current Employee - Registered Practical Nurse in Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros

Its a hospital. Working as a Nurse in other settings other than a hospital tends to be harder, ie. pay. The pay is decent and one of the highest in Ontario but this is due to the Union.

    Cons

The hospital has a bad reputation especially due to the link with SARS. Improvements to the hospital is slow and tedious usually due to government cut backs but also management. As with all hospitals respect is based on position, doctors get the most and support services get the lowest.

    Advice to Management

Lets work on improving the hospitals reputation. Lets focus harder on patient care. I believe we work really hard especially being one of the busiest hospitals in the GTA. Lets give due to where it should be given.
