I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company offers employees the opportunity to grow from within with little to no experience. They are currently growing and it is understandable there are growing pains to go along with that. All the comments about compensation appear to be taken into consideration. The Consultant roles here are not equivalent to those at larger Consultant agencies. Also, it appears leadership is looking into it. Benefits are amazing - I don't know of any company that offers fully paid for medical, dental benefits for the employee AND their family.

    Cons

The company has two locations due to growth and customer support. Those officing in the non HQ location feel isolated. This is something we can work through.

    Advice to Management

I love that one of your main goals is to develop your people.

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stocked kitchen, unlimited PTO, good health insurance

    Cons

VERY low wages, Clickey office, Executive leaders/Owners not interested in career development despite saying otherwise

    Advice to Management

Pay employees something close to the industry standard. We're not doing low-income work, so why are we paid low-income salaries for the Seattle-Bellevue-Redmond area?
Provide training to managers so they can provide valuable guidance, rather than just saying, "do better, work harder."

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn and grow
    Great work environment
Great support structure to ensure success

    Cons

Promotions only happen every six months, either January or July. Generally it takes at least a year to get a promotion, so if you start in in between Jan or July then you have to wait longer to get a promotion than someone who starts in Jan or July.
Salary is slightly lower than competing companies.

    Advice to Management

Continue transforming the Spur values and processes to adjust to the larger size of the company. The old way of doing things doesn't seem to be translating as well with this many people.

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn professional skills while working with smart, driven, and fun people.

    Cons

Leadership appears to be directionally lost and unable to really listen. I say "really listen" because they will address symptoms but miss the root cause (or even recognize that there is a root cause). And they're often reluctant to accept hard truths don't serve their narrative.

Leadership changes over the last year, coupled with recent growth, have only exacerbated previous problems and created additional issues.

    Advice to Management

Listen. You don't need all the answers. Listen to understand problems and work with your employees to solve them. Your employees want to make Spur the best version of itself.

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Spur Group has amazing training and puts lots of resources into their employees. It is a great place to grow confidence and build core skills at a high level.

    Cons

While Spur is a great place to start your career the career progression is slow and unfortunately they prepare you to do excellent work, but then can't pay what that work is worth when you reach higher levels. It is hard to stay committed to a company that you love when they are play $20K+ less than competitors for the same work

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people. The Spur Group has done a fantastic job of hiring people with diverse backgrounds, resulting in an energetic and fun atmosphere. Employees are all very friendly and collaborate well together

    Cons

The Spur Group is growing rapidly, but it's developing and not-scaled onboarding processes for new hires is showing. Compensation is still below market average. New change in leadership structure (Board, CEO) has yet to produce results to manage growth

    Advice to Management

Realize that growth means changing from what was traditionally thought of as 'the Spur way"

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great place for career growth, both in terms of skills development and advancement opportunities
    - Particularly good fit for people early in their career - skills that consultants gain here are applicable anywhere
    - Fun, interesting, genuinely supportive coworkers and management
    - Rigorous culture that values and recognizes hard work
    - Great work/life balance (particularly in the context of the consulting industry)

    Cons

    - Minimal choice of projects (especially early on) - assignments vary widely from interesting to tedious
    - Steep learning curve for the first few months - new employees typically start projects on day 1, and training / defined processes are not what they should be

    Advice to Management

Invest time and money in documenting processes and ensuring that new employees have the support they need to succeed

I have been working at The Spur Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company is deeply dedicated to coaching and developing people to meet the highest expectations.

    Cons

Requires some luck to get on the right projects, but early success and demonstration of drive will have an impact.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good evolution and work hard to keep the culture as you grow.
Don't put spin on things, people can see through it.
