    Pros

good culture and employees, good benefits and retirement. most employees are long-term and you can learn a lot from them

    Cons

low base pay and bonus relative to the industry, difficult to promote due to so many long time employees. also a relatively small company so not a lot of areas to move to

I worked at The Standard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefit package for employees. The drive in to work could have been worse and they support their area communities well.

    Cons

The constant change of management created an environment in which I felt it difficult to thrive. Also there seemed to be promotion based upon relationship rather than skill.

    Advice to Management

Look to live behind your promise of developing employees

    Pros

Overall great company and a handful of great people

    Cons

They act like they are very diverse however they are not. They do not let you move up if you are not best friends with the manager.

    Advice to Management

The newer supervisor is great. The other one needs to learn her job and be a leader

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    - Highly collaborative culture
    - Commitment to Lean and continuous process improvement
    - Agile delivery is starting to take root over traditional practices
    - A great place to be a part of organizational transformation from a stagnate environment stuck in the 90's to modern era. Requires innovative thinking and problem solving.

    Cons

    - Death by consensus
    - Outdated leadership style and approaches applied to new innovative practices risks disengagement by top down dictation rather than self organization, collaboration and continuous improvement
    - Fear based 'leadership' still exists in some areas

    Advice to Management

Set the direction, hire the right people, inspire, encourage, and enable, trust that the people doing the work will come up with the right solutions and approach, and get out of the way.

    Pros

They are trying to make changes and make progress. Encouraging employee engagement and feedback. There is also a lot of room for growth. The analyst role exposes you to some much variety.

    Cons

Old timers still manage to keep things as they were even after attempts have been made to bring change.

For some roles, work life balance Is not good. There are times when you are working lights out.

    The leadership ranks are narrow.

    Advice to Management

    Allow for work life balance.
Create score cards that can make employee ranking impersonal and therefore hopefully more objective.
Allow people to pursue creatively, give them some time from routine work to think outside of the box.

I worked at The Standard (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to be an amazing company when it was private.

    Cons

Once it became public it went down hill from there. It was all about the numbers and the culture of the company was never the same. They started laying off longtime valuable employees to bring in lower paid employees in order for their numbers to look better.

I have been working at The Standard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They promote with in, and are give the customers the benefit of the dout in grey areas.

    Cons

They don't pay enough and people leave in flocks for better pay and the lital get slammed with unreasonable case loads.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees a competative wage , and acknolwedge the outrageous cost of living boom in Portland. The CEO, Greg Ness gave us a lesson in budgeting at last years annual meeting, telling us we could choose to eat steak each night or top ramen. This year he talked about how the employees on the ground floor were above average, yet the salaries are not competitive. He's out of touch with his company, and living the life of an out of touch CEO.

I have been working at The Standard full-time

    Pros

Great Location. Solid Benefits. Nice co-workers.

    Cons

Mediocre senior leadership. Lack of investment in IT over the past decade(s) is a ticking time bomb. I can't even describe how far behind we are - you'd have to see it to believe it.

    Advice to Management

Use the recent change in ownership as an opportunity to stop chasing quarterly results and finally focus on making good long term decisions.

    Pros

Great company perks for employees and their families. . Employees are really nice people. This company does a lot of work in the community.

    Cons

Company has been acquired by Japanese Insurance company, Meiji Yasuda. No room for growth for non professionals. (Assistants) Minorities have small chance of moving up in the organization. There is a good ole boys vibe.

    Advice to Management
