    Pros

    Always challenging my limits here.

    Cons

    Deadlines are sometimes too tight

    Advice to Management

As in most lines of work involving journalism, more flexibility to unexpected deadline inhibitors would boost the general morale here.

    Pros

    Great Learning Environment
Good ability to move through the company
Management is very open in sharing its plans for the future

    Cons

Working responsibilities can be changed frequently
Has several departments which can sometimes cause completion of a task to be slow

    Advice to Management

The company is headed in the right direction but still has some work to do. My advice would be to keep doing what they are doing given we keep making great improvements each year.

I have been working at The Standard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Immense opportunities for growth, an affordable and solid benefits package inclusive of health and dental insurance and transit subsidies, time and opportunities to volunteer within the community, pay scale is well within the market range, many extra perks such as classes, resource groups, and activities for professional growth, support and networking. When I was looking for a new job, and got hired on at The Standard I can solidly say from my research and experience that The Standards pay and benefits are very much in line with, and even a bit better than the majority of what is out there.

    Cons

Nothing from the company itself is negative in my book. There are the challenges you can encounter in any workplace that relate more to the dynamics of team work, cohesion, professional communications, etc. that come down to individual behavior and approach rather than company policy and procedure.

    Advice to Management

I appreciate managements approachability and communication.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at The Standard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Momentum is building for some great IT transformations. If you perform well you get rewarded. New leadership in the business is really helping drive positive change. The IT team works well together. Much more collaboration between applications teams and infrastructure teams than at most companies. Very good work/life flexibility in both hours and location.

    Cons

Some parts of outsourcing still need some work. That limits what some IT folks can focus on.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in IT and transformation. Keep the smart people in IT motivated to innovate.

I have been working at The Standard full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you're working hard everyday, then you get more autonomy. Some of the people that complain are usually the ones with poor audit scores, or just don't know how to do their job effectively. They give more opportunities to people that work hard such as various projects, approving for new team members or teaching classes to new hires. The benefits are solid as well.

    Cons

Needs more open communication across the department. A lot of team members hear about updates and department changes last minute.
