I have been working at The UPS Store part-time

    Pros

flexible hours, the store offers and does so many different things so you do learn a lot about various products, machines, and obviously shipping & packaging. good experience in retail - many cons, but it all depends on the individual franchise owner you work for.

    Cons

prices are outrageous so you constantly have to deal with customer complaints and people getting angry, so it's challenging to build a necessary rapport with the customer. many of the individual franchise owners are money hungry (mainly because of the royals & unnecessarily high fees they have to pay to ups) so they focus on money instead of genuine customer service - which would actually bring and keep customers around. also, many of these business owners have no experience in owning a business so it puts the employees in a very stressful, frustrated position trying to help out the owner - but still getting paid as a simple sales associate.

    Advice to Management

stop trying to be so structured and focus on genuine human interaction. you have to put yourself in the customers position in order to run a successful business.

I worked at The UPS Store full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Small family run businesses usually

    Cons

mom & pop = you're screwed on benefits, pay, overtime, and hours. franchise agreement rules and regulations make it hard for the owner to do business efficiently and profitably. The owner is usually a thrifty tightwad who will not hire the best people, neither pay them well, so you have a constant revolving door. Customer service suffers, hard-working co-workers suffer, and the owner remains frustrated in perpetuity because he/she will not pay the employees!

    Advice to Management

Please understand that this is for THE UPS STORE and not UPS shipping corporation. They are two *totally* different entities. The practices, policies, admonishments, materials -- and generally everything coming out of the home office in San Diego is a nightmare. It is counter-productive to running a "mom and pop" business, and focuses on the corporate goons padding their wallets. Do not work here and do not buy a franchise; the market is so super-saturated anyways. Further, their push this decade into MCO's is ruining the entire structure. Oh, but their corporate profits are the highest ever. Ask an owner, on the spur of the moment, if he/she would dump their life's savings into it, given a second chance....

I worked at The UPS Store full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed working in the customer service field and meeting several different type of people

    Cons

The UPS Store is a franchise owed business. When a new owner bought the franchise we did not see eye to eyes on several things.
