I worked at The UPS Store full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    My fellow employees were great.

    Cons

It is a dead end job with no room for advancement or pay increases. Absentee ownership, only interested in the store and an outlet to ship wine.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees so they can afford to make a living in the Napa Valley.

I worked at The UPS Store part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Coworkers were great
    - Flexible schedule

    Cons

    - Bad management. Micromanaging and a good amount of judgment of employees went on here if the manager didn't feel you were doing something exactly as she thought. Always felt like I was being watched and judged.
    - Low pay, no benefits
    - Annoying tasks like having to pack peoples' boxes/packages for them
    - Inconsistencies with charges of services, depending on the service

    Advice to Management

    Chill out!

The owner is a grumpy old hag that talks down to you,and makes snide comments ,.Explains things in a very confusing way,and makes you feel and look stupid for not understanding.

    Advice to Management

Stop being condescending, treat your employees and customers with respect.Maybe even consider retirement.

I worked at The UPS Store (More than a year)

    Pros

The owner started me at what I asked for. Fairly easy job to do.

    Cons

Small shop with half of the employees being related. They would call out frequently and leave the non-related employees with covering the store when they were EXTREMELY busy. The owner would not pull you aside and speak to you privately about what was done wrong or needed improvement. Instead, you were yelled out in front of other employees and even customers. Was told at training that when you hit the declared value button, leave it at $199 instead of changing it to the standard $100 even if the customer did not want a higher declared value. No benefits what so ever. No paid time off, vacation time, holiday pay or health insurance.

    Advice to Management

If your going to run a business, run it professionally.

I worked at The UPS Store part-time

    Pros

Relationships with co-workers and a few friendly customers.
    Pay rate.

    Cons

    Everything.
Owners berate their employees in front of customers and coworkers.
    Lack of decent training.
They rip customers off and pick fights.

    Advice to Management

10 hour days the first week you're hired and feed you lies about growth and full time hours. Take advantage of people's time and money. I have yet to get paid for the time I worked there.

    Pros

I really can't think of any.

    Cons

Since UPS Stores are individually owned, my experience will differ from other people's experiences. However, where I worked in Boulder, I wasn't trained in any aspect and was expected to do a good job, and berated if I wasn't. I tried my best, but since I was teaching myself mistakes were bound to happen, and customers had to witness a furious boss scream at his employees in broken English about mistakes they were making. I wasn't the only one who messed up, there was a cupboard in the back filled with packages that just never got sent because we weren't trained how to properly send packages.

    Advice to Management

I know that not all UPS stores are managed in this way, so I would encourage you to to check in on your stores and see how they are running, if you saw how this branch was doing, you would be appalled.
