I worked at The UPS Store

    Pros

Great immediate manager, very professional. Flexible schedule, to a point.

    Cons

Owners are a mess. Unfamiliar with store operations, micromanage and show preferential treatment to certain staff, namely their own family members. Don't appreciate hard working manager.

    Advice to Management

Apply your skills to a job where you are appreciated.

I have been working at The UPS Store part-time

    Pros

You get to meet some awesome people, pay its average, and you'll spend a lot of your time either reading or getting personal stuff done during slow season

    Cons

There could be rude customers but other than that nothing bad. In Xmas season and back to college season it can get pretty crazy in the store, but as long as you have a good staff you'll be okay

    Advice to Management

Don't be rude to your store clerks they can have your back at all times trust me, they will be either your worst enemies or your bestfriends

I worked at The UPS Store part-time for less than a year

      Pros

      - The hours are very flexible. As long as you request days off in advance you will almost certainly get them - The base job is fairly straightforward, even boring sometimes. Some edge-case policies (alcohol, international customs, etc.) need to be constantly remembered though, which may be a problem for people who have trouble multi-tasking in a customer-facing environment - Being owned locally can be both good and...

      Cons

      - The starting pay is abysmal. Raises are granted if you become the go-to employee for a location (the opener/closer) or promote into management. It doesn't help that you will have twenty hours or less per week during most of the year - There are zero benefits whatsoever - There doesn't appear to be a united best practices, even between stores in the same geographical area. It's basically up to each store manager...

      Advice to Management

Be extremely explicit in regards to sales expectations. The more ambiguity there is, the more stressful it is for the individual employee. Furthermore, if you have let an employee go, you need to let them know the instant that decision is made. Do not pass the buck or procrastinate, leaving that employee in a holding pattern until they have to pester every manager they know to get an answer. I was treated as a second-class...

I have been working at The UPS Store part-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

Off Sundays go home as early as 7:00 pm Individually owned and operated. Feels like working for mom and pops. Off most major holidays.

      Cons

Lots of repetition on returns for DVR's and Modems. Corporate is really dumb about stuff most of the time.
