I have been working at The University of North Carolina System full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A friendly work environment. Provide extensive training to set precedents regarding university values. Community directors are understanding of your involvement, encouraging, and accessible when help is needed.

    Cons

Often feel lonely, live more of an independent lifestyle. Residents are not always responsive, must maintain a positive attitude.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at The University of North Carolina System part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Great emphasis on maintaining work/life balance - Very collegial work environment, with good mix of ages and levels of experience - Varied work responsibilities - Lots of interaction with campus community - Relatively high compensation

    Cons

    - Little to no interaction with upper administration - Emphasis on inclusive goes overboard at times - Paternalistic attitude towards students peaks out from time to time

    Advice to Management

Make more of an effort to interact with lower rung employees.

I have been working at The University of North Carolina System

    Pros

Great facilities are one of the major pluses. The people are also friendly and a joy to work with. High speed internet and food withing walking distance. A single room at the double rate. The opportunity to help students acclimate to the college environment and to help them through tough times. The RA position is worthwhile for any full-time student.

    Cons

There is not much room for change. Also, the process for hiring at all levels has too many holes and leads to some people getting positions that they only meet the minimum requirements for, or only meet them on paper. They are also more likely to hire new people then to promote from within.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, they sometimes deserve it and at least you KNOW what they can do.
