I worked at The University of North Carolina System

    Pros

Amazing company to work for. Amazing work ethic and great team of people. Great off time as you get off whenever the school is closed. If you start out at a lower job than you wanted to in job positions, new positions open up and you can grow from there.

    Cons

Lower salaries but you can easily grow within the company.

I worked at The University of North Carolina System full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work/Life balance but that isn't because of good leadership, its a state job so you work a consistent schedule as an SHRA employee

    Cons

If you care about growth, do not work at UNC. Everything on that campus is political. The HR department staff have personal relationships with leaders of different schools so if you need their assistance with anything, you won't get it. No raises, no bonuses and if you have more education than your co-worker, you are paid the same amount of money, no matter what. A lot of times employees will have more education than...

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking you are the smartest person in the room because most of the time, that isn't true just because you have worked here for the last 25 years. Stand on the right side of history for once!

I have been working at The University of North Carolina System full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Stable place to work, Benefits are ok and the work environment is good. Sometimes you get to think outside the box on projects.

    Cons

Raises are few and far between, management is old and not flexible to new styles and ideas of work environment. Very political and people are either entrenched in the system and unable to change or just working and not caring.

    Advice to Management

Learn to accommodate new work and management types, such as remote work, flex work, etc. Invest in your people and make paths for promotions and rasies.

I have been working at The University of North Carolina System full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great colleagues, we make this UNIV survive!

    Cons

Not sure if this is for ALL the UNIV but here they dont like to do bonuses or raises, they are the lowest on the pay scale and they work you like a dog and expect for you to take the beating. They allow their higher ups to receive yearly bonuses but here they do SHOTTY work on the performance reviews in order to be able to NOT give you a bonus.... DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE VALUED, they do not value their employees...

    Advice to Management

Maybe if you showed your employees appreciation, you would have decent workers and people would stay, Im new to NC from TX and the way you guys treat your employees is HORRIBLE , While WE WORK YOUR HIGHER UPS DELEGATE WORK TO US LITTLE PEOPLE and they get the reward of OUR work... SAD

I have been working at The University of North Carolina System full-time

    Pros

Good benefits Beautiful Environment Stable Employment Pension Mostly Friendly Great perks like flex-time and work from home if you are the lucky few who have a manager who will let you use them

    Cons

Managers have wide discretion, which results in a lot of favoritism and divergence in quality of life for employees Flex-time and other advertised benefits are doled out based on department whim No raises Rapidly rising cost of living Hostile legislature There's a statue of a slaver in the middle of campus

    Advice to Management

Decentralization is easier, but employees suffer If you do not want to mandate equality in perks and benefits, do not advertise that you offer them

I worked at The University of North Carolina System part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very flexible with your schedule, you basically choose everything yourself. Management is very supportive and great to all tutors. Training is paid and gives great skills.

    Cons

Pay is pretty low but with opportunity to go up every semester you stay with them. Students expect more of the role but for what you're paid its hard to meet those expectations.

    Advice to Management

Pay your tutors a bit more, especially the ones with good performance reviews.
