I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

The hospital has the latest technology

    Cons

No overtime at all, zero, never, not one minute!
Parking in nearby towns and shuttling adds two hours (unpaid) on to your day.

    Advice to Management

Pay people a decent salary - at least enough to live on. We know you can afford it and it is shameful not to pay livable wages to hardworking people.

I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good. It's the only thing the keeps people tied to their jobs.

    Cons

Individual contributions are not wanted nor expected. The management is very tight and they have made all the decisions and only want yes people for manager and below. Very little communication goes from the top down except this is what you will do, this is when you will do it and I don't want to hear about it if you can't do it within a specific timeframe.

    Advice to Management

The office culture sucks, talk to the employees below the director level. Listen to what they have to say and promote open discussions among all level of employees. You have some very hard working dedicated employees still working for you though many have left.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some fantastic health care workers, awesome patients, good pay

    Cons

There are some horrible, abusive supervisors, some very greedy, unethical doctors, and a Human Resources Department that is totally corrupt. Watch your own back no one else will.

    Advice to Management

Get a first hand view of the health care workers and ask them how they are treated. When they tell you they feel disrespected by the doctors and supervisors they work with, take it seriously and fix it.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great health care is provided to patients, health care providers are awesome.

    Cons

Not a place to work if you don't like politics. Need to a change in Senior management, they are detached from reality and live in a bubble. One VP has been there quite a few years but still has her main residence in MA, Totally not committed to Vermont or the lifestyle.

    Advice to Management

Clean house, maybe you would be able to keep more middle management.

Good Benefits, good food in the cafe

    Pros

Fletcher Allen is Vermonts largest hospital and one of their biggest employers. I was excited accepting a job there, as their pay and benefits are really good.

    Cons

Fletcher Allen seemed like a great place to work...at first. Looks can be deceiving, very deceiving. Politics rules the roost at FAHC. Upper management is incompetent and Managers and supervisors are the most corrupt I have ever encountered. Human Resources is a joke, as they are in upper managements back pocket. There are absolutely no resources for an employee who has been wronged by management. There is no individual thinking at all - It's their way or the highway.
Worst place, by far.... I have ever worked for.. BEWARE!!!!

    Advice to Management

Where do I start. How about taking classes in management and learning a little compassion for your employees. Don't sweep corrupt or inept managers behaviors under the carpet, do something about them.

    Cons

When you are hired you a told that this is a team oriented place of employment, it is as long as you do what the long term folks want.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your new employees, they may have some good ideas.
