I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of different areas to work in, good benefits, good pay.

    Cons

Very "who you know" and upper management is very insulated from the work areas and staff.

    Advice to Management

Spend time learning how the different areas work as a team and with other departments. Middle management often does not treat their staff very well.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Has a good benefits package

    Cons

    The acuity tool is outdated
Because it is so busy, nurses bullying the LNA is very common and it quite often is subtle and highly under reported. There are a lot of cliques with the nurses and LNA staff. Even though there is the window dressing of the code of conduct, that pretty much is a legal indemnification clause, that is it. I have not seen an organizationall wide campaign against this.

    Advice to Management

Bullying is happening. People work harder than others. Open your eyes

    Pros

Benefits are great, employee engagement is a high priority. Resources are provided to make changes and keep up with industry. VERY patient focused.

    Cons

Long term management team in my department that did not welcome outsiders. Little support from EAP or HR to acclimate to culture.

    Advice to Management

Shake up teams managed by groups who have been together for 20 years.

    Pros

employees wanted to do the right thing, good group to work with

    Cons

favoritism shown by manager. allowed people who had no idea what they were doing to mess things up and then expected others who were more knowledgeable to fix it

I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits kick in right away and are great! Most employees are great to work with.

    Cons

Within your 90 day orientation if your manager doesn't like you they literally need no reason to terminate your employment. Just saying you "don't fit" is all they need to say.

    Advice to Management

Starting a new manager on a new unit isn't the smartest thing to do with new employees. They don't know the unit, they don't know the people, they don't know the job. They can't effectively lead new employees.

    Pros

    Your boss is
A pager jobs are somwhat random and are able to work in all parts of the hospital

    Cons

We work with Bosnians that think they are not doing their job right if they are not giving you a hard time. Sometimes feels like I am working in a elementary school playground with all the childish office drama.

    Advice to Management

    Get better leads.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time

    Pros

If you are looking for extra hours, for the most part they're available. Team work on my floor is great!

    Cons

Since we don't have a union when your floor is over staffed you have no choice but to float to other floors. Even though you've never been trained on them.
