I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you into outdoor winter activities vermont maybe for you. Friendly staff.

    Cons

In my job field they took away further advancement. One of the reasons I quit I cpuslnt go any further up the ladder.

    Advice to Management

Provide a better advancement structure. Evaluation system is a joke. That system really doesn't work like it is supposed to. Self evals don't tell the managers what the employee is doing. Eclipse reporting is a way for software micromanagement but doesn't show the real truth in daily workload.

    Pros

They are an equal opportunity employer which makes for a diverse work environment. There is room to grow and change job positions that fit your needs.

    Cons

There is a feeling of hierarchy, not everyone is made to feel they are on the same playing field. There is constantly construction which increases the noise, creates working spaces that aren't ideal and at time inconveniences customers.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to what employees are telling you. They are the ones who are in the trenches, without good and happy employees you don't get as many dedicated employees who want to do a good job.

    Cons

Sometimes patients can be difficult, but thats just part of the job.

    Pros

Pleasant working conditions, adequate reports at change of shift made, excellent coordination and cooperation among staff, careful placement for sitter/patient compatibility throughout the facility.

    Cons

Occasionally, a patient may be very difficult to work with, at times without self-knowledge of their own words/actions.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. It is easy to see the compliance with new policies and procedures, as well as the consistent improvement and growth at UVM CVMC, though the facility has been established for more than 40 years.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay. Work load is busy but doable. Never a dull moment! Lots to learn, always can gain more experience by working here. The nurses union does an adequate job protection safe patient care. Staffing ratios are reasonable on most of the units. The cafe food is actually pretty decent and affordable. Onsite parking for eve, night and weekend shifts.

    Cons

Poor orientation process in this department although it was fine in other areas that I have worked. Management is so so, extremely variable from unit to unit. the overall job satisfaction of most employees is strongly tied to the manager of the unit. Scheduling can be a big dissatisfier in nursing and its no different here, lots of weekends and odd schedules if working in a unionized position. You have to take a bus from a remote parking location if working day shift.

    Advice to Management

You need some new ideas and forward thinking people in management!

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time

    Pros

great employee wellness focus, internal candidates for open positions usually given priority, great benefits

    Cons

a lot of grandfathered management, not much management oversight so friendships and personal feelings about employees can take precedence over policy

    Advice to Management

follow the policies; communicate with other departments regularly and pay attention to how the off site departments do things
