I worked at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

UVMMC truly cares about its employees and patients. This can only truly be appreciated by working elsewhere and realizing that those things you came to expect, like employee wellness promotion, patient centered care, and a truly supportive leadership, were unique to UVMMC.

    Cons

The union environment can be difficult to navigate as it creates unnecessary tension between nurses, leadership, and other employees.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great place for a new grad, since it is a teaching hospital. Very strong union representation. Free parking on campus for night/evening workers. Kitchen open 24 hours. 24/7 provider presence.

    Cons

Must shuttle ~15 minutes when working day shift, seniority is EVERYTHING. It controls scheduling and time off. If you're a new grad, expect to "earn you place" when it comes to logistics like the ones listed.

    Pros

good benefits, vermont is a pretty cool state,

    Cons

pay is extremely low when compared to COL Management from the top down has a very "culture of fear" attached to it. Dissent against anything management says or does even when done professionally and constructively puts a target on your head. Its so bad in my department everyone just keeps their mouth shut during meetings. Recent EPIC go-live was a disaster. Things weren't built just a few days before the go-live. Not sure how they were so poorly prepared when they knew about it for ages. Hospital mismanaged money so poorly with the new Miller building every department had to cut a couple thousand from the budget (i think it was about 40K, but I'm not positive). The lab had to get rid of the HLA department entirely.

I have been working at The University of Vermont Medical Center part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Strong union has your back. Great coworkers.

    Cons

We had to strike to get a decent raise. Previous years raises were paltry yet they keep adding administration positions in the $700k to 1 million range. Lowly employees like RNs park off site and take shuttle buses to work.
