I worked at The Washington Court Hotel full-time (More than a year)
The rate is competitive for the job market and the area. The compensation is kept high by the union which also provides free health insurance and 'advocates' on behalf of all employees. The management of some departments cares a lot and is smart.
There are a very large number of employees who are not skilled and very lazy, but have been a member of the union for so long they are impossible to get ride of. Everyone of these staff members are incredible well versed in the union handbook and management is running scared so they let them get away with anything.
Advice to Management
Nepotism is a bad thing. Try hiring some people who actually know how to run a hotel or any business. Also try to have some standards about which groups you will accept. Just because their money is green doesn't mean it's always worth it.
