I worked at The White Company part-time for less than a year

    Pros

All the team were lovely. Assistant manager offered excellent support. Generous 50% discount, although not included on sale items. Lovely store and great brand to work with. Good place to work part-time.

    Cons

Poor communication from store manager. Always expected to work significantly more than contractual hours and made to feel bad for requesting otherwise, despite prior commitments and notice.

I worked at The White Company part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great place to work if you enjoy having the time to chat to customers about products and have a whole team of like-minded staff to work with. Really good place to learn about products in-depth, so is more challenging than your average high street store.

    Cons

Not many - perhaps internal management in terms of customer information capture was rather frustrating, as numbers mattered more to managers than whether or not the customer actually wanted to give over their personal details...

    Pros

Discount Products Stores Work team I loved working for this company. The company working ethic is almost family like and you feel very comfortable working there - it doesn’t have a corporate feel to it all. The product quality is amazing and as long as you enjoy the products they sell, you’ll enjoy your job. Some customers can be quite challenging, especially depending on the store/location but the vast... majority of people that come in and out are regular customers and they’re lovely people. I would really recommend working here - I really enjoyed my time working for them and often miss it.

    Cons

Shift patterns aren’t consistent & depending on store - hierarchy of management can be a little intense and intimidating.

    Advice to Management

Higher management to be more approachable and friendly

I have been working at The White Company part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Whilst working at The White Company, you receive great hourly pay and a 50% staff discount on all the lovely products (bar sale), and there are always opportunities for overtime. Supervisors and other Sales Assistants are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

Pleasing the manager is a very difficult task and there seems to always be an issue with the way you work. There is no uniform allowance so you must wear your own black smart clothing, which is a bit of a grey area as it is difficult to always agree with management in regards to what is professional and what isn't. Also, sometimes you are given overtime without any communication beforehand.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes praise does not go amiss, as it feels as though no matter how hard you try it is never good enough. Also, perhaps looking into uniform allowance might be beneficial as the customers love the clothes that we wear, wish to buy them, and we have to tell them that the clothes we are wearing were bought at a different store.

I worked at The White Company part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Discount is good. Good hourly rate.

    Cons

Management is disgraceful. From store management to higher management. Over worked to the detriment of staff due to budget and targets- as long as you hit target your concerns are ignored. Awful place to work and higher management are completely aware of the issues in store but actively ignore it.

    Advice to Management

Stop advertising a lovely premium culture when you completely fail to deliver one.

I worked at The White Company part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's an aesthetically pleasing environment. The location I worked in was nice. Paid on time. You could be contacted to a small amount of hours but the hours were flexible and you could do a lot more overtime if you wanted.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations of the sales assistants. You are expected to know everything without much assistance or help from colleagues. There was a lack of training and insight into the products. There is a constant emphasis on targets -- managers are very money hungry and it makes the working environment hostile and stressful. Lunch was always delayed in busy periods. Management could be very patronising and... fake. No sense of teamwork or togetherness - very dog eat dog/corporate feel. The people working there are too focused on making a sale or impressing managers to care about the other team members. Most of the customers were stuck up, rude old people. At times, the customers have made many of my colleagues cry. They will rip you to shreds if you don't know what you're doing. The pay is mediocre. Strong sense of hierarchy. The store could get extremely quiet, slow paced and boring. The older staff would act superior to the younger staff even though they weren't mangers/supervisors. Working on the tills was a pain - customers would expect you to wrap everything and expected unlimited discounts. Plus, you would have to "customer capture" recurring consumers which is basically searching them up on the system. The system would constantly lose people's details which was frustrating. If you were kept behind after closing, you were usually kept behind for over an hour tidying up.

    Advice to Management

Be more reasonable with the expectations & make an effort to make the workers feel included and valued.
