  1. "Sr Technical Lead"

I worked at TheFind (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was very good, nice work, great friends, good work life balance, latest technologies to work on. Manager was also very understanding and gave opportunities to grow.

    Cons

Company lost direction and focus. They tried all different directions and couldn't grow the business. Good potential was lost.

    Advice to Management

Its not only important to have a good product technically, its also important to understand which business to be in. If you don't have many competitors, maybe there is a good reason for that.

    Pros

    • Great people
    • Great food
    • Excellent benefits
    • Balancable work/life culture
    • Variety of project/types
    • Great opportunities for expansion

    Cons

    • Quick deadlines
    • Compartmentalizing culture
    • Some projects stretch on into odd hours

Not that many cons that I can think of. Overall was happy here

    Advice to Management

Open up information to everyone so we can all do a good job together. Management compartmentalizes too much.

    Pros

A very small team means getting to know people. Plus there was tons of flexibility because you dealt with things 1:1 vs having to get a group of 5-15 people together to fix one small issue or move something forward. Everyone seemed collaborative and fair and nice.

    Cons

Company got acquired by Facebook. Bad because TheFind is over...

    Advice to Management

    Thanks for a great opportunity.

I worked at TheFind full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent compensation, snacks in the kitchen

    Cons

Trickle-down spineless management, No interest in innovation whatsoever, Unethical methods of operation, poor company philosophy. Managers mostly incompetent, barely able to pull their weight, Caste system for everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Be open with all your staff and don't keep secrets all the time unless absolutely necessary. Teams work better if they work toward a common goal.

I worked at TheFind full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Was paid fairly well for easy work, but it was still below industry standard.

    Cons

    * Walking into this company's office is the most depressing thing ever. Square cubicle land with no personality or decoration whatsoever...just a couple of sad orange couches. Everyone is scowling and unfriendly. Even the kitchen is not welcoming - always dirty, with uncomfortable furniture. Literally the worst excuse for company "culture" I've ever seen. No one goes into the office unless it's unavailable. Sadsville, USA
    * The CEO never once acknowledged me and I worked for them for a year. He's always unsmiling and looks ready to fly off the handle - his colorless, dour personality no doubt colors the "culture"
    * Their policy of "don't share anything" is detrimental to their overall success and most of all, employee morale. Before they sold to Facebook, all they would tell employees is that something would happen soon. They slashed all budgets and no one knew what to do or what to work on or if they should look for other jobs. Good thing they did sell - justified many people wasting years of their lives on this place and it had no business being a company in the first place. Oh, they also blatantly lied to everyone about the deal - said it was a partnership deal and was with a different company - trying to throw people off the trail of "no one cares?" LOL...
    * They have a policy of no one having phones or extensions at their desk, just an all-office answering system that no one actually answers or seemingly ever checks. Yep, that's right...doesn't matter if you are a vendor trying to reach their Accounting dept because you have seriously delinquent unpaid invoices, or the HR department with security concerns - no one will talk to you on the phone.
    * They never cared about customer service. Sure, their shopping search engine worked well and trolled every website out there for deals - including every fraudulent and scam site. People complained all the time about getting ripped off via email or social media, and they never did anything about it besides occasionally remove a merchant from their directory.
    * Marketing was deliberately misleading. They regularly ran ads for the sole purpose of gaining “likes” or downloads, ads that made ludicrous claims like “Get 50% off Gucci!” knowing full well that high-end designer labels NEVER go on sale at 50% off. All they did was cheapen themselves and garner distrust.
    * Shady, shady, shady, immoral & shady. Good luck, Facebook - guess you got what you deserve too.

    Advice to Management

Remove yourselves from the career pool, move to an island, and slowly knock each other off Survivor-style. You are terrible people.

    Pros

Flexibility, friendly people, free snacks. Company has been around for awhile.

    Cons

The UI team and Engineer are mediocre at what they do. They have no real vision.
