    Pros

the best part of the job is the flexible schedule. having a 9-5 but being able to fit it and mold it to what you need is great. the office also tries to work around your area/neighborhood so that travel isn't too bad.

    Cons

being in the field is very isolating. i hardly know any other clinicians. my supervisor is hard to get in contact with and my questions usually go unanswered. i don't think i was given enough training before being put in the field, especially given the parents i work with are very immersed in ABA and tough to work with. it would be nice to have a stronger understanding. i also feel pretty much on my own trying to navigate paperwork, who i need to contact for different questions/concerns and navigating strategies for sessions. i was also told i was going to be getting hours towards a license and i cannot.

    Advice to Management

if an employee is uncomfortable with a case, hear them out and don't use it as leverage to NOT give them cases! if a clinician can also not take a case or two due to time constraints or travel, this is also not means to not offer anything, especially when billable hours are what gets us paid.
also, transitioning from salaried to fee for service is discouraging and i don't understand why this transition needs to take place. you'll retain a LOT more employees by keeping them on a salaried basis.

I worked at TheraCare of New York part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are nice and seem welcoming, and it could be rewarding if the company would value their employees time better.

    Cons

*Was led to believe I would always have cases however by week 2 I had only been given 1 case which was almost impossible to schedule due to the family's slow follow up. Time is money. I could not waste my time (16 hrs of unpaid training which I had already wasted...diligently) so I left (with another offer).
*limited access to supervisors, impersonal set up.
    *Unpaid training
*Unpaid time phone scheduling on weekends

    Advice to Management

*Please reconsider increasing the full time salary to a respectable one that reflects the credentials of your employees.
*Be realistic at the interview process about the slow speed of which cases will actually come into fruition.
    *Pay for training.

    Pros

Love my clients, get to work with a variety of people and the pay is decent for a social work salary

    Cons

Very disorganized, disconnect with administration, very limited training (felt very thrown out in the field) and all field based so sometimes I feel a lack of support and don't have an office setting/co-workers to fall back on.

I have been working at TheraCare of New York full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great employees to work with, working for a great cause, easy to earn a lot of paid time off, flexible hours

    Cons

Company does not match 401K, you are given a bigger workload without more compensation, ceo makes quick decisions and gives you projects then forgets about his ideas so your work is for nothing, hardly given raises

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, work as a team, praise for good work, be truthful- don't say bonuses will be given out when you reach a goal but then not follow through

I have been working at TheraCare of New York part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Queens staff is really helpful and supportive, the salary is fair, make your own schedule to an extent, the part-time option is a good way to feel out the company to see if it is a good fit, the work itself is rewarding when you see progress in a child and family.

    Cons

The nature of the job itself is transitory so there's no office that you do your casework in really and a lot of traveling, dealing with different and multiple families can sometimes be frustrating requires a lot of flexibility, the child clients can be frustrating and difficult to work with sometimes.

    Advice to Management

More direct advice about how to deal with parents in denial and tools that could be useful to them would be helpful.

People here actually care about the children; I mean that both Administrative and Clinically. It is amazing once you are behind the scenes to see how people really work together to accomplish the goals of the child.

Generous Holiday!!! Great support team, and fun environment.

    Cons

I think employees are sometime confused because they might not be relayed the correct message. That being said, there has been some improvement in this area over the past 6 months.

    Advice to Management

Keep improving the work environment, it is a great place to work.
