I worked at Thern part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company offered decent benefits, and worked with some really bright people, outgoing people. The company is very green-friendly, which I don't think you find in many manufacturers. Also felt that Lean Manufacturing was very forward-thinking on their part.

    Cons

Soooo many projects that would get to 99% completion and then shelved at the last minute to never be heard from again. You could tell this resulted in so much wasted potential and a huge drop in morale.

    Advice to Management

Lean Theory is just that, a theory. It's suppose to eliminate waste, but it can't apply in all aspects of the company. In the end, more waste is created than what you started with. Then, when you start gutting people of their creativity, your company starts losing it's only sense of direction. Treat your employees as individuals, let them see their projects through completion. Break up the monotony of the... lean process once in a while, you might be shocked by what your employees come up with.

I worked at Thern part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company definitely has bought into the Lean Manufacturing theory, which is great to make the workplace very efficient and ergonomic. Also, I loved the fact that they have made a conscious effort to limit their carbon footprint. Met some very cool people there.

    Cons

Sometimes they take the Lean Manufacturing too far. The idea is to eliminate waste, but micro-management spurns even more waste. For example, more time is spent creating solutions from non-existent problems, than actually creating products.

    Advice to Management

If you are asking yourself why projects have stagnated, perhaps it's best to look at yourselves than the work process.
