I have been working at Thomas Jefferson University full-time

    Pros

i think they have great benefits and great flexibility with scheduling. Earned time off days are the highest i've seen at any company

    Cons

i feel like the salary is a bit too low, but overall i think the pros outweigh the cons which makes working here awesome.

    Advice to Management

I think that the principal investigators should have better reign over how and when to give raises, i don't think it should be largely up to the administration. if someone can attest to the abilities of a worker, they should be able to have whatever raise their boss sees fit.

I have been working at Thomas Jefferson University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly colleagues in various departments who care about the work they do, and put patients, students, and the community first. For an organization so large, TJU has a close-knit, family feel with colleagues and an atmosphere where people really care for each other. Decent paid time off package and work/life balance.

    Cons

Compensation is way below market value for most positions. It is nearly impossible to get a performance bonus/raise over 2%. Getting promoted to another position with twice the amount of work/responsibility might yield a 5% salary increase.

    Advice to Management

Analyze compensation throughout the enterprise. We are on the low end of the scale....even for nonprofit private universities. Austerity measures are taking place, yet we keep hiring "associate provosts" and administrators who make 200k+ and are not contributing to TJU's bottom line. There is so much redundancy and no accountability for the financial mistakes that have been made. Let's focus on improving the quality of service to our patients and the education of our students rather than acquiring every community hospital in the Delaware Valley in an attempt to be Penn.

    Pros

Some excellent faculty; productive contacts between research faculty and clinical faculty

    Cons

Low pay; attacking tenure commitments; no funds for modern instruments; excess funds for management, big signs, and advertising; focus only on hospital; provost often out of town to develop his personal companies
