    Pros

Very laid back/good work environment. Staff is friendly and supportive. Patient population comes from South Philly neighborhood. Mostly friendly patient population.

    Cons

Low pay compared to what other surrounding hospitals would offer. The hospital is old and needs more repairs/upkeep which the patients sometimes complain about.

I have been working at Thomas Jefferson University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I've has some excellent experiences with one department I worked in.

    Cons

The worst has got to be the practice of hiding salaries. Most universities have a "grade system: your job is a 20, 25, 60 or whatever. However at Jefferson people doing the same job in various departments can be entirely different grades. Also there's no chart where you can go and check, for instance to see the salary range of a "J-60" so you never know what you can really be paid. Last, most job announcement do not even tell the grade so you are left wondering if the job is a promotion or demotion or just lateral move.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent on salaries. You will get more applicants and the people you hire will want to stay , not move to another department to increase their $. Also there should be uniformity of compensation for the same job across departments.
