I worked at Thomas Petroleum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management was great, training program top-notch. Dispatch is a fast-paced, detail-oriented position, made enjoyable by a great team mentality.

    Cons

Pay was a little low for the responsibility of the position, but fair.

    Advice to Management

Continue employing great managers, employees and drivers. I really have no advice to give.

I worked at Thomas Petroleum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was a paycheck, not sure now that Pilot has mixed in.

    Cons

Turn a blind eye to compliance and poor communication from management.

I worked at Thomas Petroleum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When I hired on in 2013 Thomas was the premier fuel hauler job in Abilene Texas. Made great money and mostly worked with great people. Drove a new Mack truck, that was well maintained because I made sure it was serviced and cleaned regularly.

    Cons

After Pilot logistics merged with Thomas (more like aquired) things got bad. Health insurance premiums increased and hours got fewer. Then on March 4th 2015 we all got a msg there would be a mandatory meeting the next morning at 0900. Meeting were never that late. On March 5th 2015 at the meeting they informed us this was our last day. They gave us a check for 2 wks pay at 40 hrs per week, even though we averaged 65-70. I understand things change and a business has to make tough choices to survive, but as a hard working loyal employee it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth that they fired us with no notice. I ended up trying to retire, but will have to find work for several years, no easy feat at 66 yrs old

    Advice to Management

Not much I can say. Mr. Thomas got millions from this so called merger. Hope he enjoys his life while we all struggle to get by

    Pros

great coworkers who were open to collaboration and team work

    Cons

management was mismanaged - lack of leadership and focus on important growth opportunities based upon what I felt was a personal discrimination against age and gender rather than understanding or drive to implement changes

    Advice to Management

Vet management in their skills both professionally and socially..... and realize that age does not equal experience or the ability to handle authority in a cohesive manner

    Pros

Good pay, benefits and car allowance.

    Cons

Zero leadership from management. Zero training. Zero guidance. Expectations are not given so obviously unattainable. You are nothing but a number unless you have been with the company for at least 10 years. Even then there is no job security especially with the "merger" with Pilot which was truly an acquisition. Many quality lifers were let go without any good reason or explanation. Management is so out of the loop they don't even notice when a rep is out sick for 4 days despite the multiple emails sent to let them know.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like human beings. Offer legitimate training and define clear expectations. Mentors would work wonders if you are unavailable as a "manager".

I worked at Thomas Petroleum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of work so you can get pretty good checks.

    Cons

Lack of communication from office to employees. Not enough time notice for when jobs start Back up. Probably about 4 hours or less of sleep a day. No schedule, never knew when I was gonna have a day off. No one held accountable in office.

    Advice to Management

Make a schedule and care more about your workers instead of just trying to force guys to work on very little sleep.

I have been working at Thomas Petroleum full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. Generally plenty of hours. Makes for a decent pay check.
I am on a traveling crew. Nice to get to travel and see various parts of the country.
    Great people to work with.

    Cons

Just like any job, some things make you shake your head.
The traveling is nice, but the weather can suck... negative temps in ND isn't fun!

    Advice to Management

Put everyone on an equal 2 week rotation to the harder climates (i.e. ND)... to make it fair for all.

Need more consistency in paper work for ALL terminals.

    Pros

not micromanaged at all. as long as you work an honest day no one will question your efforts

    Cons

have to get through a lot of red tape in order to get things done

    Advice to Management

listen to your sales reps, we are the eyes and ears of the company on the ground floor. We have a lot of knowledge to what should be done from an operational standpoint
