I worked at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice environment, friendly co-workers, great learning opportunities. chance to interact with many senior principals and learn more about the industry in general. team morale is good.

    Cons

Mismanagement, misallocation of resources, lack of common sense regarding decision making. Policy more important than practicality. Micro management by some, too little management by others. Limited administrative staff, human resources staff, accounting, IT, all support roles.

    Advice to Management

Keep better check on jr managers. Things should be left to discretion and not always adhere to policy that is impractical. Be more willing to trust/improvise. Administration department in particular would benefit from a clear delineation of responsibility. Certain people always get their way, often at the expense of others, regardless of their titles. Do more to include supporting staff and engage/educate about the industry and TT projects in particular.

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are really good to work with. Generally very collaborative and helpful and supportive. Projects are interesting, if you're on the right team. Lots of good internal resources.

    Cons

Long work hours, but salaries are only middle of the pack. (This is OK if you get paid overtime, but it's rougher if you're on salary.) As the company has grown, the amount of bureaucracy has increased

    Advice to Management

corporate bureaucracy sometimes gets in the way of getting projects done efficiently. focus your efforts more on streamlining the way people work, not on generating more tracking logs and financial reports.

    Pros

Well known in the industry, interesting projects to potentially work on, availability to travel for work, very bright minds and if you put the effort in you can get some great mentoring.

    Cons

In some offices it's easy to just become another cog in the machine working on some large scale projects, hard to stand out, salaries are not competitive, since there are many lower level engineers as of recently there does not feel like there is much room for movement up the ladder. The company is expanding rapidly. In my experience you really have to luck out with getting on a good project team to feel as though you're really getting the most out of your job here.

I worked at Thornton Tomasetti as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great work environment.
Many specialist and PhD's to work with and learn from.
If you are looking for challenging projects, this is the place!

    Cons

Multi leveled hierarchical management system, hard to climb up the ladder and chances of getting stuck with some banal job on an existing project.

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great projects from all over world and super experienced project managers. The job responsibility ranges from design or calculation to proposal and report writings. Good opportunities to learn these.

    Cons

The due is generally tight and overtime is needed. Some times the colleague can be not much helpful and self-learning is for sure needed at this circumstance.

    Advice to Management

Distribution of work can be more fair. Marketing is always challenging but there is a big space to grow. Good luck TT!
