good place to be if you have your own projects and your own team to work on them
    plenty of training seminars

    Cons

    projects consistently understaffed
management generally doesn't believe in work-life balance
not an inspiring place to work since it's about the bottom line

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A lot of knowledgably people within the company. Engineers are great to work with and a day to day basis.

    Cons

There is a lot of micro management. Leaders/managers need leadership training. There is a lack of communication. Bonuses are low and pay isn't great for the amount of hours worked. There is no work life balance. They expect you to work 10 hours days without overtime pay and work on vacation too. High turnover within the company

    Advice to Management

Train the leadership of the company. Managers need to treat their employees with respect and share knowledge.

    Pros

Great database of knowledge in Highrise building design field.

    Cons

This company is cheap. The Senior Management get talented interns (J1-visa holders) from all over the world, who are ready to work 25 hours per day in order to be awarded with H1/B visa after internship is over. Later on you won't get promoted above "Senior Engineer" position if you can not lie all the time.

    Advice to Management

Watch out a quality of the design work done by un-experienced and ambitions youngsters. Pay attention to the design teams working on international projects.

    Pros

Great benefits, great projects, lots of offices to work in.

    Cons

Salary is not as good, hard to move up, seems arbitrary who gets promoted and who doesn’t. General feeling among younger staff is that everyone is replaceable.

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A great bunch of incredibly bright and talented guys and girls who work hard to please their customers
A variety of interesting projects to work on

    Cons

Little respect is given by the management team to junior colleagues
A fairly negative working atmosphere exists from employees who feel they are powerless to influence or suggest improvements

    Advice to Management

Break down the old fashioned chain of command structure and give staff authority to make decisions.
Treat everyone equally and don't have 'Favourites' who receive preferential treatment

    Pros

Challenging and interesting, high profile jobs.
Good information sharing within the company.
Great office and working atmosphere, lot's of smart young people.

    Cons

Growth within the company is difficult. Too many levels of titles. Very top heavy company.
Salaries are 10-15% lower compared to competitors.

    Advice to Management

Provide more feedback than once a year review. Improve and encourage transfers/exchanges between company offices. Pay more competitive salaries to staff.

    Pros

I have been working at Thornton Tomasetti full-time

    Pros

Interesting and challenging projects. Wide variety of projects. If you forget you have a life outside of work, you will do very well.

    Cons

Long hours, low pay. Though that seems to be the norm in the industry.
Worst was the "I am the boss, you are the employee" kind of attitude by senior management. More than once I was told "to keep my boss happy!!!"
    Not a good team environment.
The reason for bad bonus and lousy pay increase is ofcourse the "recession" though it is clear from the work load and fees that the office is doing well. And then when senior staff keep getting promoted every year, you wonder if all they tell you is true.

    Advice to Management

Take care of all your employees, not just the senior staff.

    Cons

No growth opportunities for support staff and lower pay than normal for what's asked of you.

    Advice to Management

Put more emphasis on helping talented employees careers blossum.
