I worked at Thorntons (UK) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Brand, product, people, new Ferrero funding, plenty of potential to grow now no longer exposed to PLC short term pressures.

    Cons

Huge change as Ferrero culture subsumes all. The compromise of the new funding will be the distinct culture and local control will be diluted.

    Pros

    Discount, great products.
Some store incentives are great....I'm really struggling to fill the minimum requirement for the words.

    Cons

The job is over demanding, underpaid, no flexibility, no advancement, area managers very prejudiced, store managers are okay but it depends on the individual, they adopt a school head master approach. job is very unsafe, long hours alone with a lot to do. most enjoyable part of my job was home time!!

It was a lovely company, but working in the west midlands now was terrible for me. I used to work in the east midlands so this may be why. They are judgemental and have cliques and all name and shame each other behind their backs.

glad to see the back of it.

    Advice to Management

Stop being bullied and actually try to help staff wheb they havr issues instead of being immature and talking and rumour spreading behind people's back...get some real managers in there like the east midlands to run things properly....

    Pros

Working for a company making and selling British best confectionery will put a smile on your face ...... not? It does on mine!

    Cons

    Recognition in every possible way!

    Advice to Management

Look after those who have been with you for a long time and recognise their commitment, long service and them being a Brand Ambasador

I have been working at Thorntons (UK) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team, lots of exciting times ahead, easy to progress within the company if you have the get up and go to do it. Lots of different opportunities for learning new skills and getting out of store for variety.

    Cons

Some managers don't like to encourage and can have favourites but usually there's ways around this. Sometimes you have to do work outside of normal hours that you don't get paid for.

    Advice to Management

There's lots of people in stores that can be of great help when planning things you just need to listen to them as they know the stores and customers better than anyone

    Pros

    Great culture
    Great people and atmosphere
Opportunities to get involved with lots of cross functional projects
    Loads of chocolate to try!!

    Cons

Pay and benefits lacking in comparison to other local employers.
Lots of change currently but should be positive in the long run.

    Advice to Management

Pay not the best could do with bringing in line with other businesses especially for individuals that have progressed through the business.

I worked at Thorntons (UK) full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great team within store was a lot of focus on development a couple of years ago which I greatly benefitted from

    Cons

Pay for a store manager is ridiculous I was promised pay rises on numerous occasions which never happened. Other mangers got away with leaving early every day and creating roles for them which aren't needed. Need to take a better look at what is going on in stores or will loose a lot of staff they have invested greatly in! Lost cumulative of 20+ years of experience from 1 store within 6 months need to ask yourselves why?

    Advice to Management

Look after staff who are loyal to the brand and put in so much effort to keep the shop a float
