I have been working at Thorson Baker & Associates full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

TBA encourages career growth by providing on the job training, an excellent corporate culture, a wide variety of design opportunities, continuing education, mentoring and a "sky's the limit" attitude. Promotions are based on ability and personal accomplishments, not seniority, politics or years of experience.

    Cons

The work is fast paced and challenging. Most projects are very deadline driven so a personal drive and commitment to completing the work on time with few errors is a must have.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look for employees that are self motivated and driven to succeed.

I have been working at Thorson Baker & Associates full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee retention is a priority and employees are valued here. Great staff and working environment. Criteria for performance based promotions and raises seem fair. Vacations are always approved. Good variety of projects. Plenty of opportunities for paid overtime.

    Cons

The fast-paced schedules and demanding clients can be stressful for some.

    Advice to Management

Upper management is pretty accessible. I don't have anything to say here that I wouldn't tell them in person.

    Pros

Work directly with principals; good project communication; up to date technology / software. Weekly meetings keep all informed of company business & job status. Great work space.

    Cons

Principals need to keep better track of employee's project responsibilities. Reviews come late in first quarter and are returned late without project lists used for ratings.

    Advice to Management

Employee reviews should possibly be conducted every 6 mos. instead of 12 for better feed back and improvements. Rate project managers on all projects under their charge, don't weight a single project too heavily.

    Pros

Variety of projects. They take care of you, but only if you can produce. Office environment is friendly.

    Cons

They will not train you. You must learn the material on your own. There is a lack of communication from management. They have high expectations. There is a great deal of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more with your employees. If an employee is falling behind, you should talk to them. Care more about employee development. Its important to provide them with the tools they need to succeed.
