I worked at Thrillist Media Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice company overall, smart writers, great content.
    Cool atmosphere generally

    Cons

Not a place for adults, very college dorm mentality, pranks and jokes

    Advice to Management

Really pay attention to who works hard, not just the word of long term employees

I have been working at Thrillist Media Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Free beer
    -The people are great
-Unlimited sick days and a decent vacation package
-They pay ok if you get on their good side
    -Free snacks and coffee weekly
-Party hard, forget where you work

    Cons

    - Company changes direction without notice. Upper management seems to change their mind frequently
    - Lack of feedback necessary to improve performance
    - Little room for growth--lots of nepotism
    - Management in general doesn't communicate well
    - There's no unity in the company. Rather than moving in one direction together, it seems everyone's on a different page
    - And they don't pay out vacation days

    Advice to Management

Communicate better with your employees including learning to demonstrate what you want, plan more than 3 months ahead, don't just promote people to management to fill a void, as a company let people know what's going on

    Pros

Fun place to work at. Environment is super laid back. Company has a lot of upside. You will learn a lot if you pay attention.

    Cons

Cons is the same as pros. It can get too laid back sometimes and make it difficult to work. A lot of employees are also very green with no middle person between them and senior management.

    Pros

Keg in office & relaxed atmosphere

    Cons

Favoritism, unqualified managers & directors , unorganized leadership which trickles down into employees working harder not smarter.

    Advice to Management

Hire & promote qualified people ....and Pay them what they're worth so they stick around more than 6mths

I worked at Thrillist Media Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great office environment if the idea of a fraternity appeals to you, possibility of telecommute for certain employees, constructive advice, decent benefits... all with the caveat of "for a startup".

    Cons

No transparency in career path. Absolutely none. Weaker employees will occasionally become "gilded", and visibly treated better/promoted above far stronger/more seasoned staff. People can be ignored, or eliminated, on a whim and without justification. The company strategy changes every six months, chasing short term goals with no apparent consideration of the long term. Expect to wear a lot of hats (regardless of if you're qualified for them) and then be judged on them.

    Advice to Management

Remember where you came from, and think about where you want to be five years from now. Not just what you want to see tomorrow.

I worked at Thrillist Media Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - fun loving environment of young, dedicated, smart people
    - compensation and benefits are good
    - smart people with good ideas
    - management TRIES to enstill a culture of fun and fraternity

    Cons

    - Incredibly Cliquey environment. Think: cool highschool lunch table (except its not football players and cheerleaders, rather new age nerds [not a bad thing])
    - Only certain people have access and influence to upper management, despite what they'll say.
    - Work life balance is good when seen through the eyes of someone who's work is their life.

Thrillist is great if you really really want to be there. You're only goal should be to maintain that enthusiasm and love for the company and people. If you fail at this, you'll find yourself in a soul crushing long winded conversation of a job that's draining and unfulfilling.

    Advice to Management

    be real

    Pros

Very young company with young employees who party and drink all the time. If you do not speak to anyone, it is possible to get far.

    Cons

Once something goes wrong, there is no way to redeem oneself, always a target on your back. People are very catty and only want promotions. Promotions based on time, not performance. Very top heavy in upper management, they say our voices are heard and recognized, but that is not the case. There is NO work life balance, hours are extremely long with no appreciation.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees and give at least some positive feedback, negative feedback was heard 99% of the time regardless of level of performance.

    Pros

Fun group of people, always different things to do and explore, internet based and growing

    Cons

Gears its content towards men, which gives it occasional sexist overtones in copy, frat bro environment

    Pros

You get to write about things you love.
The editing is pretty laid-back, not forcing a lot of stylistic or generic criteria into your writing.

    Cons

No reimbursement when writing for Food & Nightlife (often articles cost more to write than you're paid)
    Very little help from editors
Little communication and spotty work as a contract writer

    Advice to Management

Have your editors more actively engage your contract writers to foster better content and more contributions.

    Pros

very fun job. met great and amazing people there, great for connections and networking. The building itself is it start up. Very laid back environment. Lots of parties and tasting. Company culture is great

    Cons

It sometimes gets very cliquy, if you don't like hanging with co workers 24/7 not the place for you. Very long hours, sometimes some back door shady things go down.
