Pros
One of the notable advantages of Thrive was the option for remote work. It allowed for a flexible work environment and the freedom to work from anywhere, which was convenient for individuals seeking a better work-life balance. Additionally, the company organized occasional company retreats, providing opportunities for employees to connect, build relationships, and foster a sense of camaraderie. The pay was decent, and I found the people I worked with to be generally pleasant and enjoyable.
Cons
There were several significant drawbacks that I experienced during my time at Thrive. One major issue was the strict restriction on remote work. Despite being a remote company, employees were required to obtain permission to work from a location other than their primary workspace, which hindered the promised flexibility. Another concerning aspect was the heavy influence of the CEO's religious beliefs within the company. This occasionally resulted in uncomfortable situations for employees with differing beliefs, as they were expected to participate in religious practices or attend church-sponsored events. Moreover, it was disheartening to observe the lack of gender diversity in leadership positions. Throughout my tenure, there were no female directors, and this absence persisted, which was a glaring disparity. Lastly, the work-life balance was severely compromised, with constant chats and emails that seemed to never cease. Deviating from the typical working hours was frowned upon, creating a culture where going above and beyond was expected and anything less was deemed unsupportive of the team.

Thank you for adding your honest and detailed thoughts here. While there are significant advantages to working 100% remotely, it is also important to be present during working hours to ensure that all client needs are efficiently taken care of. You will be happy to know that we do in fact have a female VP that is also included in the Executive Leadership Team as well as numerous female leaders heading up departments and active in Thrive's Leadership Council. And we 100% agree on an emphasis on work-life balance, encompassing all beliefs, and diversity - this is something the ELT and People Operations team is always striving to advance as we Raise the Bar in 2023!
