I worked at TiVo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hard to say. TiVo was a great place to work until Rovi acquired them

    Cons

Rovi claimed they wanted to adopt TiVo culture. It has been the opposite. They are a secretive group and do not value their employees. Lot's of inflated titles for unqualified people.

    Advice to Management

Truly become TiVo... Rovi is an old company with poor cultural values. Hire better people. Make your culture truly flat. Your reputation of being patent bullies is reflective in the entire culture of the company.

I worked at TiVo (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Passionate and highly intelligent peers all working towards producing the best of class products in their market space.

Open and trusting environment where your voice is heard and valued.

Career growth opportunities if you're a talented and motivated employee.

    Cons

Complacency due to the status quo, low priority in investing the time and effort it takes to make meaningful changes that result in higher productivity, employee empowerment and true cross-team collaboration.

Shifting business objectives that make it hard to get behind what the company is trying to accomplish.

Typical of many companies, your usual case of everything is a priority, making if difficult to understand how to manage your time between competing projects.

Lots of technical debt that translates to nothing is ever as easy as it could be.

I have been working at TiVo full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very family-oriented work place that offers great work/life balance. Very nice people to work with and the product is interesting (who doesn't like TV?!)

    Cons

TiVo products have lost a bit of their competitive edge against lower-end cable DVR, and the company is struggle to come up with innovate and competitively-priced products to gain more market share. With upcoming acquisition by Rovi, the company's future is yet to be determined.

I have been working at TiVo full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people here are great! Extremely supportive environment, great product, good work/life balance. Career growth and employees sharing their ideas is encouraged.

    Cons

Benefits are great! Compensation; salary, stock and 401K are just ok

    Advice to Management

TiVo has a good thing going which is why so many employees have been here for 5 adn 10+ years! Really hope Rovi appreciates this and comes up with a good plan to keep this going. It is very rare to have loyal employees like this, especially nowadays in Silicon Valley.
