I have been working at Ticketmaster full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very intelligent driven leadership that empowers teams to be autonomous.
Big investments in building the leadership of the people on the teams.
    Team members are trusted.
    New ideas are welcomed.
There is nary a book that you mention that someone else in the organization has not read and implemented.
    CONCERTS!!!!
    Well structured career ladders.
Many learning opportunities throughout the organization.
Leaders take responsibility for their mistakes, and big mistakes are worn as a badge of pride, because of the mobilization and next steps that were taken to fix them, this is how we learn.

    Cons

If you are someone who is used to performing poorly and getting away with it -- that doesn't happen here. The dynamics of the team are esteemed above being liked. The values of the company are used in making tough and sometimes unpopular decisions.

    Advice to Management

Keep trusting your people and continue your investment strategy -- its amazing the creativity that comes from it!

I worked at Ticketmaster full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are many good people who work here. The offices are nice. The benefits are pretty strong. And the projects you work on can be very interesting.

    Cons

There is a real leadership problem at Ticketmaster, and most of the problems have started at the top, with the president, and then trickled down. Vast resources are spent going in certain directions, and then there is an abrupt change of course. The president blows money on his mission to be the next Steve Jobs (he's not and never will be). They have brought in execs from other companies, don't promote from within, then layoff those execs they brought in after a few months.

Having worked at Ticketmaster for years, even before the current president, I can say the company has changed and worsened.

    Advice to Management

It's time to get rid of the president. If you don't you will continue to lose people, and money.

    Cons

Unpaid internship position, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work. The communication and team meetings were a great learning experience.

    Pros

Fabulous place to work! Great benefits and opportunity for growth.

    Cons

I wouldn't say this is a "con", but an area for improvement... Managers are too busy to train staff. Could work on setting time for those transitioning into a new position.

I have been working at Ticketmaster full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to go to baseball games at OC in the middle of Tuesday and left over tickets from concerts they cannot sell out

    Cons

Highest turnover rate ever: Half of my team left 6 months into it, another 2 left in the past month.
Terrible culture: I have heard of a company where people hate each other so much, people are so argumentative at meetings and trash talk behind each other's back.
Extremely chaotic management: The leadership changes their mind every month: new agenda, new buzzwords, new ideas all the time, terrible execution.
    No stock options or bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Stick to product and let the engineers run this engineering company. learn how to treat engineers because they are the ones grinding out your products.

I worked at Ticketmaster full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

At the manager level and below, generally you will interact with some of the hardest working people ever.

The work is exciting, and who doesn't love live events. But once you get past your honeymoon period, it's a job just like any other.

Michael Rapino is an inspiring leader. It's incredible what he's built and being able to join his shareholder calls and listen to his internal business updates are some of the best moments for personal learning and growth.

It's hands-on, and it's what you make of it. You can grow, but you have to fight for it, and that's a great career lesson in itself.

The company is successful regardless of the mistakes it makes due to a monopoly on the industry.

You will make friends that you will have forever.

    Cons

Very little trust within the organization. Everyone feels like everyone else is out to get them.

Company claims it's flat, agile and entrepreneurial, but it has a very strong top-down organised model, often is paralyzed in red tape, and senior leaders work within a vacuum. There is a massive disconnect in the company values and the company behaviours.

If you are a female or other you will be bullied and intimidated by male and female vice presidents. This behavior often includes forcing you to do work that you know won't move the needle, berating you in public/private settings, reducing your salary year over year without cause, creating unnecessary interpersonal issues and workplace tension, increasing responsibilities without promotion, scapegoating you with other executives. And this is if you are GREAT and SMART at what you do. If you are a woman, keep in mind that promotions are tough. The company most likely will only promote you to VP if you are a male or if they hire you in at that position. I worked there for many years and not one of my female colleagues made it to VP, but many male colleagues become VP and SVP in in the same time period.

As a female or other, consider other options than joining this company if you are promised a promotion in 1-2 years, because it most likely will not come even when you hit your goals on your incentive compensation plan. Get in the door with what you want, because once you are in, it's not easy to get ahead. They do internal restructures quarterly, and use them as an excuse to limit individual managers' success and career growth. They also perform frequent, staggered lay offs and then re-hire similar positions, just under a different department name which is ultimately led by the same executive leadership as the prior department that had been laid off. It's a typical practice, but it should be stated it does add stress to your workload.

    Advice to Management

Hire a female from a direct ticketing competitor to run Ticketmaster. It needs a technology leader at the helm.
