I worked at Tides Center full-time

    Pros

Pros are the people mostly at the frontline and program staff, but it is a mix. SF office is a beauty, super relaxing, feels like a retreat spot amidst some forest lands and the gorgeous views of the golden gate bridge. NY office is very different but almost all the subway lines end up at Wall Street so you can always end up or go anywhere from there. That's a plus!

    Cons

Constant restructuring without operationalizing during my tenure.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice at this time.

I have been working at Tides Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very committed to mission
    Young and diverse staff
People are very dedicated and sincere about improving systems, processes, culture, etc.
Excellent location (Presidio in SF and Wall street in NY)
    An awesome CEO

    Cons

Lack of diversity among senior leadership (although they are aware of and acknowledge it)
Not a ton of room for upward mobility
Tides reputation is very mixed... There was a poorly managed transition after the founder/CEO left (turned into 4 CEOs in 4 years) to get to where we are today (which is much better. But many clients experienced that transition (and bad things that happened as a result) and it gave tides a bad reputation to this day...although its getting better.
Certain departments are very siloed and the culture is different from one department to the next.

    Advice to Management

Continue breaking down silos, improving systems/processes, and investing in your employees.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Tides Center full-time

    Pros

The organization has a great mission and occupies a unique niche in the social impact field.

    Cons

Lots of unfulfilled potential, largely due to many changes in leadership and internal silos. No clear direction on talent management or on making the social justice mission concrete in the world outside of its own doors.

    Advice to Management

Take the organizational chart less literally and allow more creativity. Work harder to keep good people.
