I have been working at Tidewater Finance Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The coworkers are great, and the dress code is very relaxed.

    Cons

The company culture is poor, upper management rarely interacts with regular employees, and the company pays well below industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Improve the culture, meet industry standard wages, and relax some of the rigid policies.

I have been working at Tidewater Finance Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have experience in collections, then this company may work for you since it accounts for 75% of the business.

    Cons

Very mundane, almost resembles an assembly line. Expected to complete work as quickly as possible without mistakes. No flexibility with schedule and only honor 6 holidays. No room for growth and 3% raise each year. Treat employees like they are lucky to work there and are disposable.

    Advice to Management

Build morale with employees. A health program would benefit the company as the bulk of employees are unhealthy and it would be nice to show that the company cares about their employees wellbeing.

    Pros

    Steady 40 hours of work.

    Cons

Can be too stringent about arriving on time through traffic. Opportunity to move up to supervisor after a few years.

    Advice to Management

Offer a bonus to those on time regularly. Make bonus programs more rewarding.

I worked at Tidewater Finance Company (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, friendly management, location is central to everything in Hampton Roads, opportunity for bonuses if you meet your goals

    Cons

Very tedious and trying work, management tries to have games and such to lighten the mood but it can only help so much, understaffed most of the time

    Advice to Management

Lighten the workload of the people on the backend--there never seems to be enough people in customer service and collections to meet the pace at which the company is growing

I have been working at Tidewater Finance Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Paid time off, company/departmental events, perks (gift cards and time passes)

    Cons

Micro-management; taking time off for valid reasons is still frowned upon (i.e., missing more than 2 days of work EVEN WHEN you provide a doctor's note); high expectations for very low pay; advancement is slow; pay raises are meager; a lot of blaming goes on when something goes wrong; poor processes/policies are still in place and have not been changed in a very long time; computer systems are outdated and/or do not keep up with the companies data needs; a lot of passive-aggressive behavior by "superiors" and co-workers.

    Advice to Management

Change can be a good thing - try it. Also, pay your employees more in-line with their job knowledge, skills, and efforts. There is NO WAY a contract processor should be paid so low when they have so much to remember and apply in their daily tasks.

    Pros

The job is good & the pay is not bad.

    Cons

Tenure employees have a hard time moving up in the company. Most of management is what make people leave due to micro-manage environment and promote base off how much they like you.
