I worked at Tiger Brands full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great industry experience! If you push hard you are given the opportunity to learn everyday

Consumer orientation vs supply chain driven (but depends on division)

Performance driven company - marketing must deliver ROI and brands must show growth. Majority of marketers have strong financial acumen. Ensure you are one of them

Produces All rounded marketers - exposure to full spectrum of marketing- great learning ground

    Cons

ensure you have a strong manager who will support and fight for you as you will rock the boat if you are a person who Holds people accountable for their actions

Company values versus company actions not aligned

Limited promotion opportunities- lateral moves to bigger brands but no title change and salary change (normally during a re-structure).

Businesses work in silos and culture varies between them. Sometimes the least well known brands or smaller brands will yield higher learning opportunities and better departmental fit.
