I worked at Tilcon New York full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits were good, most co-workers are easy to get along with. The company provides any safety gear an individual wants, including steel toe boots.

    Cons

As an hourly employee there is no opportunity for advancement. For none months a year there is no work/life balance, you will work 60 hours or more per week from April through December.

    Advice to Management

Return to a pre recession mentality where the employee was treated fairly and respected, not viewed as a replaceable commodity.

    Pros

Good lower management, paying the price answering to a Board

    Cons

Poor upper management. Money driven; safety is an afterthought. Ready to blame someone else if something goes wrong

    Advice to Management

Let go of the stranglehold you have. The "old way" of conducting business no longer works. Listen, or lose.

I have been working at Tilcon New York full-time

    Pros

Friendly environment, they have different workshops and programs within the company to become familiar with your co workers.

    Cons

They hire a temps to replace full time positions and critical roles and rotate them out instead of bringing them on for a full time hire. I've also never seen a company announce that they are moving an entire portion of the company to another state within 4 months of that move happening. Poor coordination on the part of management to make these transitions smooth.

    Advice to Management

    Transparency would be nice.

I have been working at Tilcon New York full-time

    Pros

Good pay. Some foreman are highly competent but dont last long.Coworkers are terrific and try to succeed despite upper management.

    Cons

The competent managers and foreman dont last long. Company is hypocritical when it comes to safety. Above the plant superintendents there all thought to be politicians with degrees not competent leaders.

    Advice to Management

Stop scapegoating your knowledgeable and professional managers. Cutting your own throats.

Albeit few and far between-there are some great people within the organization.

    Pros

Good training programs, safety is a priority. Good benefits and salary

    Cons

Seems to be a recent flight of talent due to cutting back on raises & benefits

    Advice to Management

Retain talent, do what you need to do

I worked at Tilcon New York full-time

    Pros

The only good thing I can say is the pay based on unionized labor

    Cons

The worst thing about Tilcon is that it is like working for a brood of vipers, they boast about being a company concerned about safety, integrity and quality on which none of it is true. They degrade and belittle their employees of whom work so hard for them.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together! Do what you say and say what you do. Be a company about integrity and professionalism and you will make an impact in our industry. Right now you are not there!
