I worked at Time Inc. (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Powerful, iconic and global brands - still. Trusted sources of valid information, news, commentary...etc. Creator of industry legends, very well respected editorial and production teams.

    Cons

Technically a very confused company with an identity crisis. Tried too many times to reinvent itself, when its strengths were always and obviously around content. While figuring themselves out, they allowed too many smallers players to eat up their share.

    Advice to Management

Stick to your strengths...become the king of content once again. The internet will continue to create information overload and people will need (and demand) to find reliable trustworthy information in a sea of garbage.

I worked at Time Inc. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting work. Sincere and good people to work with.

    Cons

No scope for advancement or raises. Constant threat of layoffs, and most work getting outsourced. Extremely low morale.

    Advice to Management

Cost cutting is counter productive beyond a point, especially when the company is not making losses.

I worked at Time Inc. (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work-life balance, free magazines, occasional celebrity sightings.

    Cons

Benefits keep getting stripped away. No clear vision by upper management. Archaic and redundant processes and technology. Massive layoffs - employees in the USA get replaced by the Time Inc. India employees. Low morale because nobody knows who is next on the chopping block. Sinking ship. Nepotism - CEO's son keeps getting promoted while non-family members get fired.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear vision. Offer transparency.

I worked at Time Inc. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Benefits. Work Life balance is excellent. Encouragement of managers to actually use vacation and truly be 'out of the office'. Fun co-workers. They don't expect work to be your life. Free magazines, both in print, online, and on mobile.

    Cons

The spin-off from Time Warner has introduced a lot of uncertainty. They top brass has all been reshuffled and changed. Which while I think it's a good thing, as things needed to be shaken up, the endless unknowns are difficult.

    Advice to Management

Change is happening, and it's happening fast. We all understand that. However please try and provide us something to boost morale. For instance let us know early if we are going to get Summer Fridays or not.

I left not because I was unhappy per se, but when another opportunity comes along, and you have know idea whether you'll have the same benefits or even a job in the next year, you take the other job.
